The Same Desk, Two Looks

I could have titled this post "Meet my twins".....But, that seemed like a cheap way to get attention, so I will just say
 "Look twins"!

How odd to find two little writing desks at a sale.....Oh, I just had to have them

I knew they had potential.   I used something called "Gloss off" (Available at any home improvement store) to get the shine off (I hate sanding) then cranked up my electric paint sprayer and primed them with Kilz primer and 2 coats of Heirloom white paint.   A little trick is to take the cap of heirloom white spray paint and have it color matched to make a gallon of paint.

Now it was time to give them each a distinctly different personality

This was an "Oops" green paint and the old knobs for both desks were from my stash

For the next desk, I mixed up my own grey paint using warm white and black paint, it almost looks a little blue?

I loved the color so much I took a drawer to Ace Hardware and had them do a color match to make a quart, here's the magic mixing numbers .  The base paint is Royal.

This color looks so great with white!  I finished both with a protective coating of wipe-on poly by Minwax

These little transformed desks will be going to the Fancy Flea April 28th in Lakeland Florida

I know I should be humble and not say how much I love these, but if I had room I would be splitting up the twins and keeping the grey one for myself!

I'm hosting the family Easter dinner (I will miss Baby Boy, he's in DC) so, I'm off to cook and clean.

Wishing you all a Blessed Easter!!

Happy Creating!
Carol

  17. I like both colors! I believe the reason you found two matching ones may be because they are nightstands not desks.. just a thought. Desks don't have a shelf on the bottom because you can't put your legs under the table. Regardless of what they are I love what you did with them.

  18. Beautiful job, Carol! That is an incredible coincidence to find two of the same desk. Love the colors you chose. I think the only problem is going to be people trying to decide which of the two they want!

  20. Hi Carol,
These are fantastic! How come I never find two cute writing desks or two of anything that's cute.
Lucky you. I would have wrestled you down for these! LOL!

You are going to have to bring home your money in a Brinks truck after this sale!

  43. Oh Carol you have done it again. I almost cried out loud when I saw the little grey/blue desk. I would give it a home in a heartbeat. I think it is a very good thing we live on opposite coasts! My home could not hold all the treasures you create that I would have to acquire. Easter Blessings to you and your family...

  44. WOW OH WOW, you did it again Carol. I cannot wait to get outside and start painting too. Garage sales are going to start soon I hope. It's still a little cold for them right now, but when that sun comes out to play and stay... I'm off.
    I say separate the twins.
    Happy Easter Miss Polka Dot.

  45. Hi Carol, Oh these little desks are adorable. I love them and the two different colors give them totally different looks. How awesome to find two. Maybe they were used as night stands somehow.
You know, I love ACE paint too and use it often in my work and home.
Thank you for sharing these beauties. I do not think they will last long.

    Wishing you a blessed Easter.
    Hugs from Texas, Celestina Marie

  47. Hello Carol~hopping in to wish you a wonderful Easter.
At this holiday I'm always flooded with memories of wearing fluffy dresses and petticoats with fluffy hair to match.
One memory stands out...as a young adult when I wasn't able to return home for Easter. My sweet mom sent me an Easter box, which included dyed eggs...I refer to them as "died" Easter eggs. Snail mail produced a box accompanied by a foul odor. I still laugh hysterically when I think about the stink bomb going off when it was opened. Fortunately I was able to rescue the remaining treats from my box.

The twins are beautiful and would fit perfectly in my home.

Getting these small glimpses of spring we've been taunted with has me craving a weather change.
I'm more than ready to welcome a fresh season of color.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  59. Your tables are just beautiful! I can't pick a favorite at all. My living room actually has both colors in it as I adore both blue and sage. Love, love, love! ~ Jamie

  60. Carol,
I totally love both but the green one has me head over heels! I think I might grab me some green paint and paint the drawer of my sewing table. It is already painted white and the green would match my craft room walls wonderfully! Thanks so much for the inspiration!!

    Hugs,
    Deb
