Using lace as a paint stencil

Have you ever thought......... this table, shelf, lamp, basket, or picture mat just needs something?  Just a little extra to spark it up?  The next time you're thinking that try using lace as a stencil.  It is just a subtle effect, but oh what a difference it makes.

Here is a picture I used the lace technique on.  I had a white oval picture mat, but it just blended in with the picture.  Then I laid a piece of lace over the white mat and sprayed it with an Heirloom white satin paint.

WA LA!

It is a simple technique, but here is a couple tips.
I am using a pink mat so it is easier to see.  Cut your lace a little larger than the mat, then spray the lace, not the picture, with a light coat of spray adhesive, the prepositional kind.  Now make sure your lace is tight to the mat.

As soon as you have sprayed the paint, rip the lace off quick, like a band aide (Ouch)!

Isn't that pretty?

It's a subtle effect, but goes oh so perfect with our Romantic Cottage homes.

I can tell your crafty minds are in high gear......What could I stencil?

No, not the CAT!

Happy Crafting!!
Carol

  5. Oh my GOSH Carol...where have you been all my life?
    You are FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, AMAZING!
I've been lost in your blog here and read about chipping off flowers, adding bling to sconces, it's amazing what you can do with a can of spray paing AND chippy old frames!
I made a list and I'm out the door to get me some epoxy stuff, a chisel, and some jb weld.
Plus...I'm so jealous of you that you have the 'mac daddy' dremel! Mine's just a regular one but it does the trick! I swear, if anyone reads this, they'll think we're some guys with all of our tools! haha
You are fabulous Carol, I'm so glad you stopped by and found me...I'm in love!!!!

  28. Carol~I've used this technique to create wrapping paper. It looks great applied to a table top.
I'm thinking about using this idea to decorate a serving tray. I'll let you know how it turns out.

  29. I have heard of someone doing this on an old picnic table they had outside. She painted the top white and then did the lace stencil in some other color, l looked like it had a tablecloth on it. I need to try this at some point, problem is that I never want to ruin the lace to do it!
