Over The Top Stool Redo

O.K. I admit it, I went over the Shabby, Romantic, Fru Fru edge.  Have you ever watched that show "Say Yes To The Dress" on TLC?  It is about women picking bridal dresses and it is on Friday nights, well guess who watched it this past Friday?  Yep me, so I got up Saturday morning all inspired to cover two little stools.

Sometimes you can go months before you see the perfect little stool to recover, I have been lucky enough to find 4 in the past 3 weeks.
I found two of these little gems for $5.00 a piece.

O.K., I lost my mind, Exhibit one.

This is covered with creme color vintage damask fabric

Then I used fabric from a antique crinoline for the lace overlay.

This is where I got really crazy, I have a gathering foot for my serger sewing machine so I took strips of the lace and ruffled it really tight.

Then nestled in ribbons, flowers, and beads from a vintage necklace.

O.K., I lost my mind in the shabby, fru fru world, Exhibit II

This is a vintage white damask fabric.

I sewed 3 beautiful lace doilies on top

Nestled a vintage brooch into a lace flower.

Added some vintage buttons.

And there you have it romantic, shabby, fru fru gone wild.

I put them in my antiques booth at Orange Tree yesterday and priced them at $38.00, now I wait to see if they sell.  I know they are over the top, but I really like them.

O.K. You be the judge, have I gone to far?  Can we get to crazy with our shabby, romantic, crafty projects or can you never go to far?  Should I stop watching wedding shows?

  1. Oh Carol, your stools are too divine! I love them so much! You are so incredibly talented. I am so glad I am getting to know you. You inspire me.
MY sweet tags arrived safely. Thank you so much! They are absolutely darling. Paper dolls were always a favorite of mine growing up. Kids today just don't seem to have the fun and creativity we had! It's all about high tech and not much else! THank you for being such a sweetheart. I hope your weekend is terrific! Hugs Anne

  13. Carol,
I thought I was the only person to use the words,"Fru-Fru" anymore. All the girls where I work laugh at me when I use that term. I must admit that stool #2 is my favorite. You should have no trouble selling them. What a unique shower or wedding gift either one would make.

  18. Well, if you're over the top, I'm leaping off with you. I think they are so beautiful and SO ROMANTIC! (Ahem... ahem... maybe you'll be featured yet again.)

I have to tell you that when I read here, I'm very inspired to bring more romance back to my home. You do "it" so well!

  19. I'm no expert on FRU FRU but I think people who like it would LOVE these stools! I am not an overly frilly type and although I enjoy looking at the vintage, frilly things so many talented people produce, it's not my taste for decorating. Of course, I'm not sure what my style is!!!! I keep looking for it! You are one talented lady and I so admire your creativity!

  23. Say YES to the Dress !! and now there is Say YES to the Dress ATLANTA !!!! I LOVE them both and I think your stools are beautiful and what a wonderful gift for a bride ... wouldn't it be a sweet idea to use the wedding dress for a dressing table skirt and stool instead of letting it sit in a box? What a wonderful thing to pass down to your daughter.

  36. The stools are very pretty. I love the wedding dress progam. But why are all the wedding dresses nowdays strapless! I have been to too many weeding lately where the bride really should not have gone the strapless route - some people are just not meant to wear strapless (me for one). Ok, rant over.

  37. Well, I think your Fru Fru is lovely. I never watch Say yes to the dress either, but did the other night too. Would you care to join us in a fall swap. If so, check out my blog post Fall Intriques Basket swap. I think it will be lots of fun!
