These candles were a good seller in my booth last year, so I thought I would share the idea.
These plastic candle sticks are readily available this time of year in thrift stores.
Quite a motley crew of ugly candle sticks, just waiting for a good scrubbing and some paint.
Here's the big tip! These plastic candles are very light weight and flimsy. To make them sturdy I filled them with grout.
A small box of grout cost $5-6
And covered it with felt
OK, let the fun begin! Time to decorate any way you choose, in any color, with bling, lace, ribbon, or flowers.
How to make clay roses tutorial here
This is a fun and easy project. I sold them in my booth last year for $6 -8 Each. I forgot to add glitter, that would have looked good!
Any other ideas?
Happy Creating!!!
Carol
I am linking up with Sherry No Minimalist Here Transformation Thursday at Shabby Chic Cottage
I have been picking these little gems up here and there for this exact purpose! I think the grout in the bottom is a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask how much you sell them for? I have such a hard time with pricing. I made some firestarters and they are really cute- have them on my blog but I am at a loss as to the price- would love any suggestions you may have!

That is a great idea Carol! I love the way you dolled them up, I have some in our Christmas stuff because I like a candle in every window, but we haven't used them in a few years because as it turns out I don't like to light a candle in every window every night! Now I can make them beautiful instead...Thanks! Theresa xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Filling them with grout, now that's genious!!! They turned out so pretty.

This is such a cute idea! I have had several of these candles for years. I have not used them for sometime because I just don't care for the way they look! You may have solved that delimma! Grout and embellishment, OMG! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a creative mind, Carol. I love them! La
ReplyDeleteI remember my mom having those candlesticks when I was a kid. It's amazing what you've done to them. They're beautiful now!
ReplyDeleteCarol - these are fantastic!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI am heading to my attic as soon as I have a pair of minutes to see if I still have my box of those things!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you really amaze me. I'm not kidding. You think outside the box in the most incredible way.
And the grout? Bingo! That's one of the biggest pains about those old candles. They tip.
Man oh mercy. I'm so glad that I'm a follower here so I don't miss the good stuff.
Geez Carol I wish I could borrow your mind!! You come up with some of the most original and fabulous ideas I have seen in a long time and then you generously share them with all of us.
ReplyDeleteHow often I have seen these little candles thrown out in the garbage after the holidays and it never occurred to me to grab them up and transform them into something beautiful and treasured...thanks you so much for another wonderful idea.
I haven't done anything yet with the starch and fabric idea but I will soon! I will post the results when I have it finished.

I love your candle light makeover, and I've got several of these floating around the house somewhere! Your blog is just lovely, and full of great ideas!
ReplyDeleteWell good grief....I bet they were a big seller in your booth. They are FABULOUS! When we had a colonial/salt box home I would put one of those candles in every window dressed up with fresh holly and when we built our next home I made sure the builder put a light socket under every window. This house has no window sills so no candles in the windows but just as well because no one drives by anyway. Carol, those really are stunning!
ReplyDeleteI got the fire starter tute up finally. The eggs are really part of the carton itself filled with ceder shavings and wax.
ReplyDeleteI have got find some time to find my little candles so I can pretty them up like yours!! We are off to NM for a few days to pick up clothing racks for the clothing bank we are starting so I guess it will have to wait till I get home. Darn- I do so get excited about a project and just want to jump right in!
