Shabby Chandelier

Taking a very average thrift store light fixture and transforming it into the perfect romantic shabby chandelier to sell in my booth.

These light fixtures are easy to find

I gave it a spray of heirloom white.

I usually cover the shades with fabric, but I found these perfect faux raw silk looking shades and decided all they needed was a little shabby rose treatment.

I used some paper flowers I found in the craft store bridal section then cut scraps of fabric and lace in oval shapes.

Here is the big tip.....get your hands wet/damp and then take the whole pile of fabrics, scrunch and roll it up in your hands

This will give you a pile of perfectly frayed and shabby fabrics.  I used the scissors and poke a hole in the center of the fabric pieces then pushed the wire stem from the paper rose through the pieces of fabric.

Of course we can't call it a chandelier until we hang some crystals

I used a jewelry making double cup connector and a dab of glue to attach the crystals, more on buying and attaching crystals HERE and HERE

I sell these in my booth for $50-$65 depending on how many arms, the shades, and how crazy I go with the crystals.  These are good sellers and usually go within a week.

FYI
Still Not sold UURRGHH!
I hope your having a great week!
                   Happy Creating!

  4. That turned out stupendously gorgeous, sugar!!! I'm impressed. A friend has a chandelier of mine that she volunteered to paint white for me so I can do the same thing for our tiny entry way. Beautiful and great idea.

  5. Hi Carol, You did a wonderful job with the chandelier and the added touches I'm sure the chandelier will sell in no time. I enjoy playing around with lampshades doing various things with them.... and yours turn out so pretty. I just love the paper flowers and all the different materials you used to make it spectacular.

  6. Hi Carol,
The chandelier looks wonderful. I usually strip all of the electrical wiring from mine and call them candlelabras. I love the way that you embellish the shades, very pretty.

I bet that little table sells soon. It sure is cute.

  7. This is so pretty. I love chandelier make overs especially the shabby chic style ones. Maybe it's a Mersman curse, mine sat for a couple of months but finally sold over the weekend. Hmmm, maybe that is a good sign for you after all :)

  8. So pretty Carol, have you ever done the rewiring of these chandeliers? I have one that I want to redo for my new studio and I think it needs re-wiring. I would love to see a tutorial on that.

  13. Hi Carol, you did it again, that Chandelier is gorgeous.
I have to laugh at the table, maybe it just needs a few of those beautiful crystals and it will be gone in no time. HA. I know it will sell, one day I will come in here and the sold sign will be out!!! It's too pretty to sit for long, Char

  14. I was about to comment on the wonderful shabby chandelier when I saw the note about the table. I can't believe it's not sold yet. Stick that great chandy on top of it and refuse to sell unless it's a set. LOL

As usual, your work is romantic and fantastic.

  15. I see those ugly brass light fixtures all the time. I never thought about them turning into something pretty until now.

Who knows what that table hasn't sold. My mom always goes for the little tables first when we go antique shopping. Maybe try piling a bunch of junk on it. You know how people like to dig for treasures. The last two pieces of furniture I bought from an antique store were like that. One was a table so covered I passed it up, but my mom found it after looking at the stuff lying on top. The last thing was a chair that had blankets and pillows piled over it.

Try throwing your odds and ends all over it. Who knows, maybe the next person will be a digger and find it.

  19. I think you really made this plain chandelier look great. I don't know why the drum table...that is so wonderful by the way, won't sell. Use a red marker and mark the price down a little, that works almost every time at my booth. People think they are really getting a deal then.
