Painting Lacy Metal Picture Fames

I know painting metal picture frames is not rocket science, or a blow your mind idea. 

 I am just sharing little tidbits of what sells well in my antiques booth, as well as adding a touch of romance to your home.

I see these gold metal frames all the time at thrift stores and estate sales.  I never pass them up.

I give them a coat of white primer and then heirloom white spray paint

I think these frames were popular in the 40's and 50's. 

Check out the raised rose design on this mat!

I was lucky enough to find a 1983 Avon calendar book at an antique fair.  Every page had a rose picture which I carefully cut out. 

And framed

I painted and framed 10 pictures and 9 of them sold in a week

When we had a sale at my antique store 2 weeks ago I met Josie a blog follower, that was soooo fun!

She bought this Norman Rockwell print I found at an estate sale.  

So there you have it,

Turning a frame from gold to white

makes them a lacy delight

Oh, tell me I didn't just write that!

Making Clay Tags

I decided to try making clay tags. 

I've never seen any made with vintage buttons and jewelry (Although I am sure they are out there) so I thought I would give it a whirl.

I used the clay that you bake in the oven to harden

Rolling it out and cutting it into circles, I didn't have any cookie cutters or I would have done other shapes.  I do many things, but baking, not so much!

Used a straw to cut the smaller circles

And rubber stamps on some to make word impressions

Then gathered some buttons, charms, and jewelry making impressions in the clay, this makes them look like they were all made together and not glued on top

After baking at 270 degrees for 25minutes, I attached them with a little E-6000

I used a little paint over the word impressions made with the rubber stamps then wiped the paint off

Painted some of the tags with acrylic paint

And added clay roses to others

This was a fun easy project

They can hang on candle holders

Well, you can use them for just about anything!

Just a couple of tips

If you are having trouble getting your clay soft enough to roll out put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds

I left some of the jewelry and charms in the clay while I baked it and they survived just fine.

A Polka Dot Serving Tray

The Polka Dot Closet makes a polka dot serving tray!!

Living in Orlando I do a lot of outside entertaining.  I am always loading food onto my ugly brown tray to bring out to the patio.

So, time for a transformation

First I spray painted the outside of the tray and picked my colors.

I painted circles and then covered a few with contact paper cut into circles.  The contact paper provides a nice tight seal.

 I painted a different color around the outside of the white contact paper circles

This is what it looked like when I took the contact paper circles off

Now it was time to cover all of the circles with contact paper circles

Then spray paint the whole tray with heirloom white paint

I coated it 3 times with Wipe on poly acrylic by Minwax.  I love this stuff, you just pour some onto a rag and wipe it on, it is wonderful, I use it on furniture also.  There is no streaking or brushes to clean up and it gives a wonderful finish.

A Vintage wedding Dress and fluffing my booth

I have my booth at Orange Tree Antiques in Orlando ready for the spring sale.  I wanted to show you this Fabulous 1950's wedding dress.

It was on it's original hanger and in perfect condition.  I priced it at $95.

I always do 25% off for sales

I love looking at other peoples booths, so I will just be quiet while you nose around

My little 8 X 8 booth is jam packed and ready for the sale,

 March 18-21.

Maybe I will get to say goodbye to the table that won't sell!
