Making Clay Tags

I decided to try making clay tags.
I've never seen any made with vintage buttons and jewelry (Although I am sure they are out there) so I thought I would give it a whirl.

I used the clay that you bake in the oven to harden

Rolling it out and cutting it into circles, I didn't have any cookie cutters or I would have done other shapes.  I do many things, but baking, not so much!

Used a straw to cut the smaller circles

And rubber stamps on some to make word impressions

Then gathered some buttons, charms, and jewelry making impressions in the clay, this makes them look like they were all made together and not glued on top

After baking at 270 degrees for 25minutes, I attached them with a little E-6000

I used a little paint over the word impressions made with the rubber stamps then wiped the paint off

Painted some of the tags with acrylic paint

And added clay roses to others

How to make clay roses is here

This was a fun easy project

They can hang on candle holders

Vases

Gifts

Well, you can use them for just about anything!

Just a couple of tips
If you are having trouble getting your clay soft enough to roll out put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds

I left some of the jewelry and charms in the clay while I baked it and they survived just fine.

Have I told you lately how much fun I am having and how I treasure each of your comments!

Congratulations, by random number generator the winner of the Annie G apron giveaway was Stacy@ Stacy's Shabby Shoppe She choose the market bag, love it, we are all jealous Stacy!

Happy Crafting!

  9. Completely charming, I liked your idea of pre-pressing the objects into the clay before baking - makes a lower profile, good integration.

  21. Lucky Stacy! Chatted with Annie last night. Sure wish we could all meet up! Your clay tags are charming. Sure wish I had the gumption to make 100 or so of them to go on the wedding favors...NOT. But maybe a few. xoxo
P.S. The carpet is just an old berber and I had a trash bag under it. That old carpet has seen so much abuse and it still keeps on ticking. :)
