How to use fabric circles to form a ruffle

You will love this easy method to make ruffles for clothes

Or a pillow

I saw this on a blog, I just don't remember who's?  If anyone knows, I would love to link it up.  The blogger had put fabric circles on a white undershirt and it was so cute I would love for you to see it!

This works best with t shirt material, I had this shirt in my closet forever and never wore it.  I was going to donate it when I thought...Wait a minute!

I cut 40 approximately 3" circles.  No need to be precise.

Fold the circle in half, then fold again and again.  The original instructions said to hand stitch, but I'm always in a hurry so I used my sewing machine and ran a stitch close to the point.

Then open into a flower

Pin the flowers on your fabric in any pattern you choose, close together or far apart.  Then attach with a couple of stitches through the center of each flower.

I found a black and white t shirt at the thrift store and cut 35 circles to put on this black shirt.  No need to buy a new shirt to cut up when you can pick one up at the thrift store

On the shirt I put some extra stitches on the outside of some of the flowers to make them lay flatter.  I get compliments from total strangers every time I wear this shirt

What is it about our pets, every time I bring out the camera

There they are! I was trying to photograph the pillow, not you guy's.

This was a little tedious, but a good "Sitting in front of the TV" project.  I love the results and it certainly was easy.

I can see using these circles on all sorts of projects

Now, before I let you go I want to show you a couple giveaways I was ohhhh so lucky to win!

From Joselyn at The DIY Spot I won a vintage Koehler  book and journal.

And from Laura at Decor to Adore I won the Oh La La giveaway from her travels to France.  Feast your eyes!

Thank you Jocelyn and Laura!

Finally, I want to highlight a special blogger.   Debbie at Words Up On Wheels  made a special effort to stop in at Orange Tree Antiques and see my booth while she was on vacation.  She wrote a post about it and nicer words have never been written.  Debbie is an unbelievably talented writer, I would call her blog "Word Candy", stop over and feast your eyes!

Happy Creating!

Carol

  2. Congrats on your wins! Lucky lady.
I love the simple ruffle idea. I wonder if it would work with light weight wool? I have several boiled wool jackets I'd like to dress up for fall and winter. This would sure be an easy way to add some color to them.

  4. Thank you so
much for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comment. I was especially excited since you have one of my favorite blogs. I have just finished a Pink And Polka Dot marathon, I have been a follower for sometime, but just went through over the past weekend and read and reread every post you have ever written. My conclusion, your a GENIOUS! Will you please adopt me and move to New York? You are so generous to share your tips and tricks and your pricing. I just started an Etsy shop and the information you have given out is so valuable. I will be thinking good thoughts about you often.

  12. Your flower circle ruffles are just the perfect touch on your pillow and tops. I love how they really add just the right amount of flair. Your kitties are precious and should be photographed. Now I am heading over to Words Up On Wheels...

  13. Well, first, THANK YOU! You are very sweet, and word candy is a great improvement over blabbermouth any day!

Second, I love this! I just recently purchased two tops with that exact look. Mine are in the collar bone/neckline area. They give a simple top a little dressing up (And I also think they camouflage my big bosom for some reason. Maybe they draw the eye upward?)

Anyway, I am so jazzed by this because I have some older t-shirts that would do perfectly for the flowers. I really plan to do this. I LOVE yours.

  19. Your kitties are so pretty. My 21 year old cat died a few years ago, so we're just a dog family now. Yours look like they are so fluffy and loveable!

Congrats on your wins! I really like the embellished shirt you made. Reminds me of my teen years. My mom and I would window shop at the high end department stores, then stopped by the craft store to recreat the look for one of a kind clothes for me. You know how it is with teens. I used to feel self conscious about some of our handmade creations, but every time I wore them girls complimented my clothing and wished their mom would help them put together pretty clothes.

As you and I know, embellishing your own stuff is a great way to get pretty looks for less. Have a great day!
