Happy New Years! My first project of 2013
I feel like a ran a marathon last year, starting with the Fancy Flea (My first crack at being a vendor). Then straight into The Wedding rehearsal dinner projects, my Daughter in law staying with me for 4 months and MANY DIY wedding projects...The Wedding on Thanksgiving weekend, then Christmas, New Years and ...Yea I survived a super fun year!
I have so many ideas and plans for 2013...Lets get started!
This was the cabinet in my entrance way (Actually right inside the front door..I don't have an entrance way lol) and it was driving me crazy, it was so outdated
Hello the 90's called and want their cabinet back!
When I did my home tour I tried to disguise it by showing this picture. Oh, see the pretty round mirror....Well...
It guess it's going to be a bad 7 years! I broke the mirror!
I thought Ok, now is the time to paint this beast! I found this new mirror at the thrift store for $14.14 (Our thrift store does weird prices like this) and it worked well with the cabinet
This is one cheap piece of furniture. I got it 15 years ago at "Big Lots", it's particle board, with hollow doors and knobs that are glued on,
I did a test run with the gold Rub and Buff
And oop's pink paint on this piece HERE
I kind of liked it so I went to work on the cabinet
The knobs were glued on so I was not able to change them
I used a little Annie Sloan dark wax over the whole piece with a little heavier application in the crevices.
Then highlighted the trim with gold Rub and Buff (Which goes on after the wax) and I was done.
It looks much better than it did and... It's growing on me, I've never had a piece of pink furniture!
CHECK...One Project done!
Happy Creating!
Carol
Oh, your luck can't be that bad Carol. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to make this piece look better, both with a better color and a better mirror. I like the pink color you used. Have a great new year!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, and inspiring right out of the gate of the New Year, I have a curio cabinet with similar painting on it....
ReplyDeleteThe mirror turned out lovely as well!
Jan
You're invited to stay with me for 4 months... yes, the dil had you so now I want the same ahahahahahah
ReplyDeleteOr you could stay with me the alllllll 7 years and redo the all house ahahah
And thinking I used to hate pink. I didn't know the right pink. This is it!
Amazing job, Carol! So glad you're back to your little - and not so little pleasures - though if you keep showing it here, people will start heading over your place instead to the lovely amazing The Fancy Flea.
Happy and Creative New Year, Carol!
It looks great, Carol! Totally gave it a new look! Love the new mirror, too. I didn't even notice the pretty detail at the top until I saw the last picture. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteit was a beauty of piece ! I'm sure I would never have the nerve to paint something like this, I envy you your courage, wow what a transformation!!Beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteYou found a very nice mirror--I like it much better than the other one. I envy your ambition! Please send some my way SOON! Happy 2013--you're off to a great beginning.♥♫
ReplyDeleteOff to a great start Miss Carol! I have to get some rub and buff! Looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteyou had me at pink:) this is such an pretty re-do, carol! love that new mirror, too!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the broken mirror you still have a cool frame. Boy did you leave the 90's behind~~~love what you did to the chest and the "new" mirror, which I think works better because of it's size. Do I detect a little rub and buff at the top of the mirror?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!!
great job!Beautiful color!I love your blog!!!ç
ReplyDeleteAngelica
It's amazing what a little paint can do. Love the pink transformation and the rub and Buff touches. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a new monster dresser that needs the same treatment:-)

Okay, I'm still an 80's lady and liked the 90's look but I have to say it really does look great now. You just have an eye for transformation and ability to carry through, don't think I've seen one thing yet that wasn't fabulous.
ReplyDeletethank you for your sweet comment Carol, you know I do miss that little fella. (())
What an amazing redo! I love the pink color on the cabinet and the "new" mirror. You wil never know how much you inspire and motivate! Happy 2013!
ReplyDeleteMy pink-loving Baby would love it. It looks like candy; I wonder what you stash in there..............

That was a great transformation! I would never have guessed that that piece was constructed of particle board.

Good-Bye 90's! This is much more elegant now and truly has your signature style and touch. Tres Chic! Blessings Dear with Peace and Joy for all of 2013...
ReplyDeleteOh How I love it! I would be thrilled with a Pink piece
ReplyDeleteCarol my dear, that is just beautiful!! I couldn't for the life of me remmber how to check how much storage you were using on Picasa and was so busy I forgot to reply to yo. Then I found this here: "If you are on blogger and want to figure out how to check how much space you have, go to your account overview, then click on Products, then on Picasa Web Albums. There at the bottom in tiny type, you can see how much of your allowance you are using. " on this blog post: http://theflossbox.blogspot.com/2012/11/blogging-tip.html hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteThat console looks really substantial now! You do have a way with furniture! Well, that and everything else you touch. I never heard of glued on knobs!
ReplyDeleteIt's totally "You"! (Yes, I know. The 80's called and want their "totally" back. )
ReplyDeleteReally, though. If I walked in your door and saw that, I would immediately begin to know the homeowner just a little bit. It has your personality, and I love it.
I love your 14.14 mirror too. I never find deals like that it seems. I need to head back to Orlando to your thrift store.
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! That is the prettiest shade of pink and the gold really adds the perfect touch.
You are starting the year out right with a paint project...I can't think of a better way.
hugs
Sissie
Aww, she's a beauty :)
ReplyDeleteReally loving the gold "Rub and Buff" , but I LOVE the pink oops paint! It is the perfect shade of pink, would have never believed this started off as a "Big Lots" find if you didn't share. Happy New Year and I'm sure you will have tons of good luck! ;)
ReplyDeleteNow it looks totally vintage and so much better. I like the softness of the pink and it's very pretty with the gold. This was a beautiful makeover, Carol.
ReplyDeleteWhat in improvement. I really think that hue of pink is very soothing, Carol. Great job, and great post!! P.S. I tackled my first project piece today, so I'm happy!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Somehow the "less busy-ness" looks so much better! LOL..I'd be lucky if my stuff looked like 90's stuff..mine is so out it's almost back in again!

ReplyDeleteCarol ~ you did an amazing job on that cabinet! It looks so much better. I just love the pale pink with the gold...totally me! LOVE IT! xo
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteI am not big on the gold, but with the pink it looks fabulous! You did a beautiful job, especially with the dark wax- my first attempt with that was less than spectacular ;)
Happy New Year,
Sue
Okay, you will think I'm weird Carol, but I had to come back in today and have a look at your cabinet again...I'm loving it so so much! What color pink did you use? It's perfect! xo
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! What a dream in pink! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job and it all looks like it belongs together!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation on the chest and mirror. I have used Rub and Buff on almost everything in my home :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad I saw this post. I could not decide how to paint a dresser that I bought several months ago - so it's been sitting in my garage gathering spiderwebs. I absolutely LOVE this pink & gold combination, thank you so much for the inspiration!
