Shabby Little Side Table With Plaster Flowers

This little vintage side table was a great find, it just needed a little love!

I looks like it was handcrafted.

I added a ring of plaster flowers to the little door.  You can make the flowers in your own clay mold..Tutorial HERE.   Or you can make flowers in gum paste molds...Tutorial HERE.   I made a chalk outline of a plate, then "glued" the flowers down with vinyl spackle.

To make the flowers look like they were actually a part of the original piece, I filled in between the spaces with vinyl spackle......NOW, it looks like a hot mess, but stick with me......

You don't need a cake decorating tube, you could put spackle in paper you shape into a cone, snip the tip off and pipe on the spackle.

I used a couple coats of homemade chalk paint, globbing  a lot of paint over the flowers.  Then finished with a coat of clear Minwax, followed by dark wax.

Now I think the flowers look original to the piece.

Have you ever noticed how big the old magazines were compared to the magazines we have now?

This is going in my booth at Orange Tree Antiques...I usually tell you a price, I'm really wavering on this one.....Maybe $55-$65?

I wanted to thank you again for taking a couple minutes out of your day to read my ramblings.  I love what I do, but sharing it with like minded people sure makes it more fun!

Happy Creating!

  1. I think that would be a great price- A good buy for the customer and I hope you make a decent amount on it. That is just a darling piece-the flower wreath really added a lot to it. xo Diana

Turned out lovely... I so wish my husband picked something I saw in the side street this morning... then I'll be needing you...

  5. That price would make it sell quickly, that's for sure. It's just perfect with the flowers. (I keep planning to copy cat your plaster projects and have yet to do it. I'm on that road to you-know-where paved by my good intentions, I guess.)

And I had not noticed that about magazines! By gum, you are right.

  14. Anyone who doesn't want to pay $65.00 wouldn't deserve to have this cutie. It does look hand crafted. My sweet Dad used to make similar items in his workshop.
My Mom taught me at an early age to refer to such items as you have...hand crafted. The beautiful items she turned out were to be handmade not home made. I say that is worth the extra $10.00 maybe more because it IS hand crafted.
I JUST LOVE your "handmade" roses and I still think you are one of the most talented ladies out there.
This is a lovely piece and I wish we had more neat magazine racks. I get so mad at the new magazines.Thinner, no content unless you count advertising.
    Have a great weekend, Ginger
