Transforming A Display Case End Table

I hope you all had a great 4th of July! I hosted a fun BBQ party that was almost rained out.  Here in Orlando we've had unusual weather--with days and days of rain. But, today I had a ray of sunshine to photograph this display table.

When I found this display end table, I thought "Oh yeah...there are some possibilities here!"

I wiped the wood with deglosser--my alternative to sanding (you can find it at any home improvement store)--then painted it with homemade chalk paint.  Then I gave it a light distressing and finished with clear Minwax.

Of course me..."Miss Shabby"...couldn't tolerate the red liner...

...However, due to the way it was adhered, it was impossible to remove; I had to go to "plan B"...

...I used some spray adhesive to cover foam core (Purchased from the dollar store) with a French graphic fabric...

...Then glued it down with E-6000.

The finishing touch was adding a vintage brooch to the front which I also glued with E-6000.

This will be going in my booth at Orange Tree Antiques.

I'll be asking the owner for help on pricing this, I'm thinking somewhere between, $70-$80...?

Wouldn't this be a great display table for wedding memorabilia, jewelry, or any family heirloom?

Because of all the glass, painting was tedious but not difficult at all.

OK...off to other projects!

A big thank you for all of your kind congratulations on my Somerset Life article...you are all sooooo kind!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Creating!
Carol

  6. There's so many great things this sweet re-do could be used for I think its a great price and will go quick. I'm still "a fiddlin" with those napkin rings and fyi the modge podge melts are fun to work with. Elaine

  8. This is so pretty and so unique; I would price it at the upper end of your range. I could see SO many collections in here, seasons, holidays, jewelry, glassware, etc. And perfect for someone with cats that like to destroy any attempt at putting a delicate collection on an open bookcase! It is really different and I will be scouring craigslist for one...

    You did it again!

  10. What a difference! My mind is spinning with display ideas... I would definitely go with the upper price range. It could even be lined with fabric for seasonal displays.

  13. Hi Carol, That was a wonderful find and you turned it into such a beautiful piece. I don't think that it will stay long in your booth. Thank you for talking about the deglosser. I didn't know that it exists and I don't like the sanding part of furniture makeovers.

  27. Dear Sweet Carol, this table is wonderful. If I lived near you I would be decorating my home from your booth. Steve and I went to town today, so I ran into the bookstore to purchase Somerset Life, I'm so proud of you. You have so much talent, but what I love best is that you are so very gracious in sharing all of your marvelous ideas and techniques. Thank you.

  32. Hi Carol, Just gorgeous. I love the fabric liner inside. So pretty. It is not going to last long in your booth. This is inspiring to see because I am in the process of painting one I have in heart shape with glass top. I will keep it as it was a gift, but needs an update.
    Have a great week.

  33. Hi Carol, love the finished project! I am wondering where you get the French graphic paper...I am doing something similar to a coffee table but using sheets of stamped paper I bought at hobby lobby.

    Thanks,
    Sylvia :)

  34. I love your sweet display cabinet and your fabric is wonderful. Definitely I would price it at around $80. Display cabinets are hard to come by and this one is so cute and updated. Beautiful and creative as usual, Carol. One of your customers will be thrilled to take this home.

  38. OH my goodness! I have the same exact display case that I have half way done. LOL.
I was bummed by the red lining too and gave up. SO Happy I see your post here showing a clever way to get around it. :)

I think my being a mommy to a four year old is the reason why my brain doesn't work well these days .....but again, thanks for the help to finish this project!
