Two Shabby Stools

I took a few days off after the Fancy Flea and then got right back to work.  First up was a couple of stools that I was excited to tackle

This piano bench was first.  I loved the bark cloth but it was in too bad a shape to salvage...Bummer

Using white craft paint, I stenciled this Paris graphic on tan fabric

Then added plaster flowers to the front of the stool.  Tutorials HERE and HERE

And finished it with clear paste wax followed by dark wax

Next, was this little cutie that has a heavy wrought iron base

I covered it with a pink Paris fabric.  I have done a lot of upholstery so I was surprised at how difficult it was to upholster around the little curves in the stool

I used a wire brush to clean the wrought iron then sprayed it with a matte sealer

Stools sell really well.  I will be putting these in my booth at Orange Tree Antiques and pricing them at $45 for the piano bench and $28 for the cute little wrought iron one

Now I think I'll get up on the cat perch with Billie and enjoy this touch of fall weather

Before it gets back to 85 degrees this weekend

Happy Creating!

  7. You are a really great creative worker carol, and moreover you're a marvellous pedagogue ! I read with pleasure the tutos about clay (in fact I already read them but I love the way you explain - and I discover something new plaster can be microwaveable !) I think that many of us after reading you are going to their studios with the desire to be more creative.
so thank you another time for all your sharing ! Love so much your stools, ah by the way your prices would suits in France too !!
It rained all last week end so no flea market for me !

  11. They are both great stools, Carol! I love the seat on the taller one and the shape of the little one is different. I picked up two stools {about the same size as yours} at an estate sale this week. I'm in the process of deciding on what fabric to use on the taller of the two.

  31. Why don't you just admit you're a witch - you even have the cat ;) - existing only to make us feel mere morals?!
Certainly so much creativity can't be of this world!
For me the mere idea of stencil sounds frightful - I must be one of the persons who pin the most "Easiest..." but the courage and vision you have isn't - I repeat - of this world.
You're really a Michelangelo in skirts:
"I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."

You look to those drabs and know you'll make something awesome of it - that's the first magic: your view.

    Thank you for sharing, Carol!

  32. It's funny that you should do a post about repurposing these stools cuz I've been eyeballing a small stool in a litle boutique but wondering what I could do with it. Now, I know!! Hopefully, it's still available :)

Btw, I've tried twice to send you an email with some questions regarding a project you did several months ago but they came back undelivered :/
