Christmas...A Trip Down Memory Lane

When I was born 100 years ago pictures were taken mostly on special occasions because cameras, film, flashbulbs, and developing were all very expensive.

Christmas was one of those special occasions.  Yep, everyone brought out their Kodaks and flashbulbs at Christmas

I think I was 3 in this picture.  I love looking in the background...Check out the cool TV.  The coffee grinder on top of the TV and the grandfather clock were already vintage and used as decor pieces.  The walls were painted a clay color, everything in decorating cycles around again.

How about that Charlie Brown tree?

I was 5 in this picture.  I remember getting this huge stand up cardboard doll for Christmas and I loved my black patent leather shoes that matched hers.

That's my brother Scott in both pictures, he's 13 months older than me (And I never let him forget it lol!)

I'm signing off for Christmas and it's going to be a busy one

My Mom is moving Friday to one of those fabulous 5 star retirement communities that has a dining room, coffee shop, every activity under the sun, transportation, weekly housekeeping, a gym, (When we toured the community there was a lady in the gym lifting weights, she was 103 years old!!!!).   Mom will be just a mile from my home, right in downtown Orlando.  It's really a fun place and I'm so excited for her.  Then Monday my 17 and 21 year old nieces are coming from Minnesota for 9 days, fun, fun, fun.....Yikes, hold down blog world for me, I will drop in when I can.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas.  One that is filled with tons of memories captured on pictures to be passed down through the ages.......Now, don't forget to buy flashbulbs!

Happy Creating
Carol

  9. Hi Carol,
You are so lucky to have those vintage family Christmas photos...they evoke happy memories of a simpler time. I think we all had those Charlie Brown trees back then. Funny, they didn't have to be "perfect" to be special to us as kids. What a fun post! Thanks for sharing and have a very Merry Christmas!

  25. Those are fun photos. Makes me want to go dig through old photos and try to find some Christmas pictures. It's amazing how we have so few pictures from youth compared to the thousands and thousands we take now. Your dress reminds me of one I had.

Good luck with your mom's move. Sounds like a great place she's moving to. That's nice that she'll be close by. Wow!...103 and lifting weights! That's amazing and awesome! I want to be like that...but, I need to start lifting weights! lol

  30. What great Christmas photos and memories, Carol! My parents had Brownie cameras too, as well as a "home movie" camera. If you have a second, pop by my blog, as I just did a post on some tote bags I created, that were inspired by you! And I of course gave you credit for the inspiration:) Merry Christmas!

  41. Hi Carol I have read your blog for a while now and I noticed you are also participating in the Pillowcase project! After Christmas I am writing a feature on that on my blog and mean time I have added you to blogs I follow on my page. Ill do the same on my fb page after Christmas with all the blogs supporting the project. I think people are so busy now and to wait another week or two and promote the pillowcase project then. I am a very new blog but I love shabby chic and all things girly... my blog is only two months old... http://thebluebirdsarenesting.blogspot.com.au/ Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year, Annabel.
