I was just driving down the street by my house and there sitting next to a garbage can was a wooden bird cage
Screech....U turn.... I always get a little embarrassed picking up other peoples trash, but It does not stop me from doing it! Especially when I see a perfectly shabby rusted bird cage.
It was in perfect condition, but since it had been used for a real bird I put on my gloves and got out the scrub brush. I love when I find something that does not need a transformation, of course I had to do Something!
So, I got out the $2.00 roll of vintage wallpaper I had previously picked up at a thrift store...
...And lined the bottom
I priced it at $32 and put it in my booth at Orange Tree Antiques. I was not surprised that it sold in a couple days, because bird cages are hot right now.
I love a good curbside find....What was your best curbside find???
Happy Creating.....Or......Finding!
Carol
What a score!! I can't believe someone would throw that out!! It's so pretty!! :) Glad you rescued it!! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the bird cage!! My best curbside find was an old TV that my son turned into an aquarium.
ReplyDeleteDenise
Ohhh I just love when someone finds a treasure like that in the trash.
ReplyDeleteI sold my bird cage once when de cluttering
and I never find vintage wall paper
lucky you
That was a great find Carol. I love the added wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteI found one of those old metal gliders but we had no way to haul it! Some other lucky person got it!
ReplyDeleteGreat birdcage find!
Gosh, we never find any good curbside trash around here. It's all trash bags and cardboard boxes, LOL! Great find!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find, Carol! I'm not amazed either that the birdcage sold so fast. One of my favorite curbside finds is an old garden table that we use on our patio for flower pots and decorations.
ReplyDeleteI definitely would have made a u-turn for that too! What a great find!!!
ReplyDeleteSo love the bird cage!
ReplyDeleteYeah ! Just learn a new word "curbside" ! My better curbside find was an antique wall coffee grinder in perfect use from the beginning of the 20th century it was made of wood, glass, earthenware and metal !
ReplyDeleteAs I often say "Les poubelles des uns font le bonheur des autres" : people trash makes other people happy" as we can verify on the flea markets ...
xoxo

Love the wallpaper liner! You gave it the perfect touch, Carol!
ReplyDeleteWell, my stove wasn't curbside but it *was* free. does that count?
We live in a University town so we often find useful curb things like fans or microwaves but no vintage items.
*Sigh* What a great find! And your 'liner' was perfect! Back in the day, used to find entire housefuls of furniture on garbage day..never had to buy much..but now it's illegal to put stuff out, except one day a year, and there are sellers in big trucks waiting to pounce on anything that might make them some money..a great find, and a great redo!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays, m'dear..
Oh, the bird cage is beautiful. Can`t understand that someone put it out with the trash.
ReplyDeleteHugs from here
I'm amazed that someone threw that away! And, equally amazed that you were lucky enough to find it! It's really cute!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great find, Carol! I can't believe someone was throwing it out. It is so pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteCarol what an incredible find. It is an gorgeous piece and I am not surprised it sold so quickly.
ReplyDeleteRoadside finds are the best.
Have a great day. Hugs!
Who in the world would trash that beauty? Good for you for grabbing it. It looks darling now!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
Wow, lucky you! I can't believe someone was tossing this out! I love your idea of lining the bottom with the sheet music, how sweet. I'm not surprised that it sold so soon. I too am always on the hunt for cast offs. I once snatched a pair of vintage wooden water skis from someones trash, then sold them:) And just recently picked up some really neat large wooden spindles that will be a future project or two!
ReplyDeleteI love trash to treasure....especially when it adds up to $$$. That was a great find.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas,
Amy Jo
love it, carol! i've never picked up anything curbside--never run into great stuff like the birdcage around here:(
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, right place, right time!!! Wonderful find, and you spiffed it very nicely.
ReplyDeleteGreat find, I would've stopped too. Love the addition of the wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I'm glad I wasn't driving right behind you. We'd be having a foot race to the curb. lol I know how that is. I found a child's french provincial vanity with bench setting on the curb with other items and I Screeched to a halt. The only thing wrong was that it needed tightening up, which took two minutes. I painted it champagne pink, redid the cushion with french graphics and sold it for $100. As the saying goes, one woman's trash is another woman's treasure.
ReplyDeleteI would have screeched to a stop, too! Wow! I can see why it sold. My best find was a little commode that had shutter-like doors. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI'm telling the Mr. we need to start going through your street ahahahah
ReplyDeleteSo sweet.
So you found a bird cage which had been a home to a Carol Birdie ;). Because it looked like a stress and worn out look you could ahieve in the time it took from picking it at the curb until finding the right paper to line it with.
I'm not surprised it sold so well. It was a sweet and lovely object and I can imagine a cat fight for that "canary" had you put it for sale among some of your blogger friends ;).
I found and convinced dear husband to pick a nightstand I hope to put my hands on soon.
Thank you for sharing and inspiring. Confident in your teachings I pick things I hope one day to make justice to your teachings.
Teresa
GET OUT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaven't trash-picked in a while, but I know the embarrassed-yet-Im-gonna-do-it-anyway feeling!
Actually, I usually see it, go home and tell Ted and HE goes and gets it!
I am guilty of curb-side shopping and dumpster diving! Love the bird cage. They do sell well. I think I might have kept that one!
ReplyDeleteDo you have your tree up!
Warmly,
deb
Love this!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird cage. I can't believe someone threw that out. I never see anything like that in the trash. Love the vintage paper. ~
ReplyDeleteJamie
That's a fantastic roadside find, Carol! Good thing you stopped & picked it up. No question it sold quickly...it's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I found a birdcage this week, but it sure wasn't free, not even close. I love how you lined the bottom with vintage wallpaper. Not surprised at all that is sold already.
ReplyDeleteGreat birdcage!! Nothing like your good finds out here in the country. People tend to just burn stuff, I think. Or who knows WHAT happens to the cast offs? Do they ship it all to Florida for you to find!? ♥♫
ReplyDeleteOnly you could find an awesome birdcage and have beautiful vintage wallpaper to line the bottom. I am not surprised that it sold quickly.
ReplyDeleteI found and picked up off the street, a neat fiddleback chair. I brought it home, placed it in my backyard. The trash man came by that day and took it. It was no where near my service yard. Karma?
Hugs, Ginger
now thats.... sum ezzy $$$ :)
ReplyDeleteWOW...lucky girl, I would have loved to have it. There must be a few of us in every state who find "good Trash"
ReplyDeleteIn our previous city, I found a vintage desk, tons and tons of high quality woman's clothes, numerous kitchen items, a Nordic skimaster. I used to wonder what kind of throw away society do we live in. In our current city -nothing on the curbsides.
ReplyDeleteOh you lucky duck, I cannot imagine someone kicked that to the curb!
ReplyDeleteVery fortunate find and even more fortunate buyer! I love this piece!! December Delights Dear...
ReplyDeleteI probably would have wrecked the car trying to get that one :) I love birdcages. Nobody leaves anything on the curb here!
ReplyDeleteOf course you had to stop...the cage is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteLove finding such pretties and the way you fix them up is adorable.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised that it sold so quickly for you.
It's so pretty.
Pat
Birdcages are so fun to use in decorating. I have one I bought - definitely did not find it on the curb.
ReplyDeleteOh you crack me up! I lost count on how many New set of brakes I have had to have done due to my creative mind! Let's see the best recent Treasure was I called Nick to pick up this Pretty headboard I saw(No room in my SUV) so he did but what I didn't see was the Wall cabinet holding it up. Which is now hanging on the wall in the Garage containing my shipping supplies. Still don't know what to do with the Headboard...any ideas? Your package is going out this week, I have been sick. But up and about now~
ReplyDeleteHuggs, Nancy
Boy you got a great one. And it is pretty. Blessings Paula
ReplyDeleteOMG what a super find!! The only finds curbside for me have been the odd few coppers or occasionally an abandoned kitty!
ReplyDeleteSCREEEEEECH! It turned out precious! So simple a task, from trash to treasure. As Daddy always said, "You do good work."
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy highways,
Kelley~

ReplyDeleteWowza! What a fabulous find! Yay for you, Carol! Turned out lovely. As always! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the new owner adores it, everyday. Lovely eye candy. xo
Oh, that's lovely! What a great score! I have so many things I've found by the dumpsters that I've lost count...chairs, a desk, a dresser, a hall tree, a wrought iron bakers rack...it's always so exciting to find something good!
ReplyDeleteWow! A great find- haven't seen anything around where we live! I love birdcages!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Oh my goodness... what an adorable find! I am always hauling something from someones curb--- so embarrassing--- but you know, you do it anyway! I recently brought home a lot of dresser drawers and made them into boxes for my pirate backyard. If you'd like to check it out they are on my blog--- about 3 posts down *wink*
ReplyDeletebig hugs,
Cheryl
A great find! Pulled a quilt out of a trash can set out on the curb....it was just peeking out the top calling my name!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not "allowed" to pick up anything at present as we are moving and have to pay for boxes to be packed and things to be moved....
Can't wait to be settled, I miss the found treasures.
I love that bird cage! They are selling well in Kansas too. I definitely remember my first trash find. My friend and I were driving to an estate sale and I spotted one of those old metal desk trash cans with tole flowers. I popped out and grabbed it as we giggled. I jumped back in and we drove off congratulating ourselves until I looked down and hundreds of ants were pouring out all over me and her car. Note to self: wear gloves, and check inside before you grab it.
ReplyDeleteThat bird cage was a super find! My best find were end tables for our finished basement! Nancy
ReplyDeleteGreat find Carol! Lucky duck!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! What a find! I'm simply mad about birdcages and your find was just perfection. I 'm so glad you didn't change the patina, it's gorgeous. I'm keeping my eyes peeled from now on!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti

Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhat great projects!! Thanks so much for stopping by! I am playing catch up..
hugs,
Debbie
My best find was a huge fantastic aged wooden box I took apart and painted signs on. I have one large part left and an looking for the right project.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect find. I love things that are non projects that I can put right into my space too. Not surprising that it sold so fast. Happy holidays, Carol.
