It's been a good week for finds. Brenda a local blog reader emailed to say she was cleaning out some treasures and asked if I was interested in taking a look. I have the nicest readers, it's so fun to meet them in person!
I could not believe when she offered me a whole bunch of porcelain flowers that had been chipped off nick nacks.
I use these on all sorts of projects, like on the top of my Sweet Shabby Cabinet
The tutorial on chipping flowers off Nick Nacks is HERE
Brenda also had some linens
And at one time she was a wedding coordinator so, she had a huge collection of candle holders.
Those of you with booths have probably seen the trend of brides and their Moms shopping antique malls for items to use in their Vintage Themed Weddings.
Brenda and I had a huge conversation about this antique rocking chair. I told her I didn't want to buy it because I knew I would need to paint it for resale. She said she wanted to paint it too, but just could not bring herself to do it. She said "Go for it". She was given the chair from a friend who had it sitting out in her backyard and was going to throw it out....So, I will upcycle and save it!
My last picture is finds from my new Honey Hole!!!
I mentioned on a previous post that my Mom had recently moved into her 5 star independent living digs......OMG....They have a thrift store open a few hours a week!!!!
I'm envisioning the gold cabinet painted in heirloom white with French blue drawers....What's your vision for the cabinet....Be warned, I might steal your idea?
Happy Creating!
Carol
Wowza what a fabulous haul! I think I am envious now of your new honey hole. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have some fun projects just waiting for your wonderful touch. We finally snagged a space downstairs at our antique mall so moving is our project over the next week. I certainly won't miss hauling furniture up to the 2nd floor.

I'm so jealous!! I know you'll turn every one of these items into something unique and wonderful. Your idea for the cabinet sounds like a good one to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous finds! You lucky girl you! Now I know you won't listen to me and NOT paint that cabinet, but it looks like vintage Italian Florentine to me. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole! LOL! xo
ReplyDeleteI love that gold cabinet! WOW! It would be beautiful with that gold leaf paint effect. (I'm not sure what it's called! lol) Love the porcelain flowers you got from a friend and the tea pot linens caught my eye. You've had a good time lately! If you see the sun....send it our way! lol Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the two chairs in the last picture. Once a upon a time I saw some at a thrift shop...wish I would have brought them home. Next time I see one or two I will! Looks like you struck gold!♥♫

ReplyDeleteOh you did good! Drooling over those porcelain flowers on the cabinets! The thrifts up near me sell chipped porcelain flower ornaments for $10! What a total rip off, so I've never bought them to use on mirrors (which I LOVE btw)! I too kinda like that cabinet as is...and I paint everything!

ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhh -- but I am looking at those delicious chippy angels with just the right amount of age & coloring! I have a collection of chalkware angels (heads/busts, too) hanging over my sewing room door.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that your mother's new residence offers you a "honey hole." Can't wait to see how you transform that lovely vintage console!
Hi Carol, wow what great finds. Your touch will make them fabulous. Sure love your idea for the little chest with the French blue drawers. You have lots to keep busy with. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI just got your post in my inbox from follow by email. They always arrive a day later. Not sure why they arrive this way. The Prairie posts part 2 and 3 just finished.
We had a great time.
Have a nice weekend.

WOW Carol, what wonderful finds...envy your new honey spot for shopping. The gold cabinet looks like Italian Florentine if it's the real deal you probably should leave it like it is... I collect the little boxes (or I should say I use to collect the little boxes) the price has sky rocketed the last few years. Keep us posted on what you find out...Please
ReplyDeleteThe chairs...just do your wonderful magic.
oh man, I can't wait to see what you do with these finds :) haha! happy new year Carol :)
ReplyDeleteoh man, I can't wait to see what you do with these finds :) haha! happy new year Carol :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing!!! I really enjoyed your post. Have a nice weekend! :D
ReplyDeleteI thought Christmas was over?!?
ReplyDeleteReally, you found some wonderful treasures, and I'll be waiting to see what you do with them. Ever since that first post about the porcelain flowers, I have wanted to do something like that. Have I? Not yet.
And I love the pieces from the thrift shop. Yes, I am thinking an heirloom white for the little gold cabinet would be so pretty. But now, if I were to find a piece like that right now, I think I might want to give it a little coat of taupe. Just sayin'...
How wonderful!! The flowers were a real treasure. I can't wait to see how you transform all of your finds,
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Amy Jo
Boy Carol, what great items you got. I am loving those flowers, so many things you can do with them.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Looks like lots of wonderful goodies, Carol! The cabinet looks like Italian Florentine...it's probably worth a lot in its original condition...check online!
ReplyDeleteWow, what amazing finds, Carol! Those flowers are so pretty, I never would have thought to repurpose them like you do. And what a neat place that thrift shop sounds like! I agree, that cabinet would be gorgeous painted an heirloom white. I envision the top either stenciled or decoupaged with a pretty damask print. Be sure to share with us your transformation!!
ReplyDeleteWhat treasures! I love your thoughts on colors regarding the cabinet, sounds beautiful! I'll be back to see what all you create!
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing things ... I love the roses on the cabinet ... can't wait to see your next projects!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I'm late in reading this but I love all your great porcelain flowers. I was at our local thrift store the other day and saw a knick knack with those flowers and thought of you.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Italian Florentine cabinet, I agree with those who said if it's the real deal in wood, leave it! Italian Florentine tables, trays, cabinets, etc. are hot items in antique stores here in Texas.
Happy New Year!
Betsy
OH my goodness, that is amazing! The finds, that French cabinet drawer thingy! LOVE IT! Good job, Carol.
ReplyDeleteJillian
Jealous of your "honey hole"!! I think the chest in the white will be the best bet!
ReplyDeleteNice blogger with lots of nice goodies for you!
Happy creating! Looks like you will be busy!
Warmly,
deb
Whoa... your one lucky girl! What treasures you've gotten hold of. What a sweet friend to let you get first dibs on her items!
ReplyDeleteI would say it was a very good week for finds. I have not been thrifting in forever. I really need to with Spring around the corner I need some fresh old stuff LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! My gramma had chairs like those with the rose backs. I'd paint the cabinet a creamy white with pale grey drawer fronts as that seems to be the hot color lately. I would trade the handles for glass ones or paint them an aged metallic gold and do some distressed gold on the scalloped edge of the top between the drawers and that bottom bit that sticks out. Style it with a mercury glass vase with bright or pale pink roses..bam! I'd do the chairs white with a greige glaze and do the seats in heavy burlap or a drop cloth "grain sack" with Frenchy graphics.
ReplyDeletejust to add..I'd probably just leave those gold bits as is and maybe even sand them further..they are already gold..no need to paint the same color!
ReplyDeleteLove your finds Carol!! I just sold a dresser like that and I used oops paint from Home Depot that was a light mint color and I put Antique rod iron hard ware handles on (sold in 2 days) Carol thank you so much for the info you post, it's helped me tremendously!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLynn
Carol I do have one question to ask, I am getting ready to make my own Chawk paint for a few furniture pieces and I have found the recipe to do that but it doesn't say if you get flat latex, satin or semi-gloss paint. Does it matter what type of paint you get to mix plaster paris with for the effect if chawk paint?
ReplyDeleteWhen Carol doesn't find the findings find Carol, it seems ahahaha
ReplyDeleteI saw a bunch of those flowers in an antique market and thought "Carol would make an awesome something of it".
And your friends seem to think so to. The fact is that your art and creations are so inspiring that people can't help but see what you'll come up with.
Thank you for sharing with us,
T
Lynn Gibson, I have no way to contact you, I am not on Google + so in the off chance that you would see this. I make my chalk paint with with any paint, it does not seem to matter
