Oh My Gosh...It was an Italian Florentine!

You were right!  A couple weeks ago I did a post on some of my "Fabulous Finds"   One of the things I showed you was this little gold chest that I was so excited to paint

The gold was not my taste and I envisioned painting it a creamy white with French blue drawers

Then your comments started rolling in

I listened to you and brought the cabinet into Orange Tree where I have my booth.   The owner Sherrie said "That's the real deal, an Italian Florentine and it's really popular now"

So..... I priced it 9 times what I paid for it thinking it would never sell and then I could take it home and paint it........Guess what........
It sold in 20 minutes!!!

So....Thank you to my wonderful readers who are so knowledgeable and willing to share!  If you ladies ever get to Orlando I owe you lunch.

Happy Creating!
Carol

  17. Carol,

That is awesome! I have a small box that is gold and aqua that my father-in-law brought back from Italy during the war. I always thought it was too bold for my taste but sounds like I am finally on trend - LOL!

  26. Well, that was a close call!! :) So could you "define" what "real" Italian Florentine is? The one I know, the wood is pretty lightweight, whether on trays or furniture, like the souvenier pieces I brought back from Florence when I was in high school (so now they're vintage too, LOL). I've always thought of those pieces as souvenir items.

Thank heavens for those smart bloggers! :)

  36. Carol, I'm so glad you made great money on that piece. I know my friend and fellow dealer who I mentioned that sells Italian FLorentine would have been one of those to buy it at your 9 times the price and then charged more in her booth. I've read that gold leaf is continuing to trend this year so that goes with this love of Florentine. It's rare to come across a cabinet like yours, usually I see stacking tables and trays. Glad I could be of a little help and more importantly, I'm glad it was a big sale for you!
