A Couple Of Shabby Chairs

I'm busy working to get my inventory built up for the

Remember these chairs I bought along with the Italian Florentine cabinet?

Some of you  said you didn't like the plaid fabric....What??

I started by painting the chairs white with a little distressing to show off that rose

Now I had to pick fabric...I tried so many different fabrics because I want to change my style.

Let me explain....For 11 years I had an antiques booth and over the course of those years I developed a following for those that love everything shabby, pink, flowery and fluffy.   So, when I closed my booth last month I thought....This is my chance to break away and be more edgy....Trendy, rusty, funky....Basically my chance to be more hip in my up-cycling.

Imagine my disappointment when after trying 20 different fabrics on these chairs....The only one that pleased my eye was this vintage rose chintz

So does this mean I'm destined to be Miss Fluffy, my whole life??
Is it possible for me to change my style and be hip and cool??

The saying about a zebra and his stripes keeps running through my head!

I've started posting the Polka Dot Flea vendors
Vendors are the heart of a show and each one of them has a well deserved page on the Polka Dot Flea website!

Happy Creating!
Carol

  2. LOVE!

Well, when there's a rose on a chair, you can't help but stay soft. You will have other chances to be hip! :)

  4. Old habits die hard, my friend lol! I'm sure you'll find your groove on another project. I know exactly what you mean, about wanting to shake things up a bit. I think that's great, it's good for the soul!

  5. I think the chairs turned out very pretty and I am afraid you are right on that zebra thing. I see many things I like and wish I could change my style but when push comes to shove I always return to my first love of floral.

  6. We just can't help what we like. Every time I have tried to change my style I just turn out unhappy, so miss fluffy I remain. The chairs are darling. I think you did great.

  8. They turned out very pretty, Carol! Well, of course, you picked the rose Chintz. Everyone can see how well the roses in the fabric go with the rose on the back of the chair. I think this particular chair just had you back where you feel comfortable. I'm sure something else will come along and you will be able to let your wild side out! : )

  10. Those chairs needed that rose fabric…you stayed right in line with the look of the chair. I think they look very pretty and much better than that original plaid :)

  12. What a beautiful transformation, Carol! That plaid would give me a headache:) The rose carving on the chairs really pops now that you've painted them white. And the fabric is perfect! Who needs edgy?:)

  19. Carol, did I miss the post about you closing your booth??? I'm coming to Orlando next month and was going to find it! Oh well ;( The chairs may not be edgy but with the rose carving, the fabric is perfect! Very Pretty!

  20. Looks great to me! I will be in Orlando next week Thur-Sat, anything special for junkers happening?

  21. Well I really like your choice of fabric. I think it goes perfectly with the chair, much better than that plaid did!!!!
I doubt you have any trouble selling those two chairs.

  22. Carol, I was chuckling at you wanting to change your style but in the end sticking with what's close to your heart! "They" (whoever 'they' are) say stick with what you love. I've tried different styles and I admit my favs are a big eclectic, but I always come back to what I love and it seems to sell. BTW, I love the chintz fabric and it was perfect for those chairs. :)

  23. Baby steps Carol! It is hard to go from one ingrained style to a new one! Heck I have been waffling about painting my pale yellow livingroom walls pale grey for 4 months!

your chairs are so pretty and that fabric is perfect. Wow, you have all that organizing to do and fill your booth . . . Don't burn your candle at both ends . . . be sure and have some relaxing time :)

  25. Ah yes. That is so familiar here, too. No matter where I go, I always circle back around to ME.

I think you'll actually be able to step out and get a little Carol 2.0 going with other pieces. It's just that those chairs begged for that exact look IMO. It's the rose on the carving that does the begging. I love them, btw.

  26. Hi Carol,
I love your style and I say never change it. You've always created the most beautiful and romantic things and your style is timeless.

I can relate to wanting to change because I've tried to do the same, but always go back to what I love.

    Congrats on your new adventure.

    hugs

  28. They are so darling. You definitely chose the right fabric for those chairs. Go funky on something else. ....although you seem to really be in the groove with your "Miss Fluffy" style. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", as the saying goes.

  30. Carol I love the chairs with the fabric you ended with. You have your specialty and it will always surface. I know this too well.

  31. luv luv luv that fabric. you know, you may think that changing your style since on a new venture is the way to go, but YOUR STYLE is what got you where you are today. i myself think that people these days yearn for a simpler time in life. for some reason, this style just does that very thing. its taken off like nothing ive ever seen before. i dont see it going away any time soon either. even guys are liking it. do your thing. its what got you where you are. there will be enough other vendors that may do that for you and you will be able to see just where that goes. its in test stage anyway. think even tho you are so very talented you would have no probs with whatever you did. best of luck to you.....you wont need it......

  33. You do shabby chic so well and that's what drew me in to be one of your "groupies" in the first place. Your work is always spectacular.

  34. Those chairs NEED vintage rose fabric! They are beautiful now!
    Great job!

  35. I'm sure you couldn't get that plaid fabric ripped off fast enough. I love the transformation and the pretty floral fabric...a perfect choice. Just keep doing what you're doing. It works!!

  37. They look pretty! Perhaps a black and white print on the next project like that would be the way to go for an edgy look.

  38. I don't know...I think because you painted the chair a shabby distressed white and it has a rose it HAD to have some Miss FLuffy fabric adn look beautiful. A different chair color, a different style chair and you might yet find yourself able shaking things up a bit. :)

  39. Carol...the only thing you have to be is YOURSELF! The rest will fall into place! Great chairs! xo

  40. Nice cheery chairs! Is that a kerosene heater painter white there? We have had one of those sitting in the garage for years now! Nancy

  41. Young lady, don't change what is working. You style has gotten you this far, Miss Fluffy.
Love the chairs and yes, the fabric is the perfect choice.
Your post reminded of the time my grandson, as a toddler, told me he loved sit in my lap cause "it was fluffy". Anyone else would have been writhing on the floor with a fat lip. So there are two "Miss Fluffys" in blogland.
    Congrats on your progress, xoxoGinger

  49. Carol -

Love the chair makeovers! I still LOVE Shabby, even tho' my style has changed over the years, I still LOVE the roses and shabby white furniture...♥

The few Shabby booths at the antique mall I'm {currently still} at are some of the MOST popular booths there...people can't get enough of shabby stuff! LOL!

  50. Carol, you have to be true to your own style. If you love roses, so will a lot of other people. I'm sure tons of your past customers from your mall space will follow you to your flea market too. I love roses and pink and pretty stuff as well so I guess I'm fluffy right along with you. Roses rule!
