Fabric garland...My new love!
This is so unbelievably quick and easy
Just incase you are one of the 10 crafters in the world like me, that haven't made one....I had to share.
The back wall of my booth at the Polka Dot Flea will be a wire grid that I covered in muslin fabric. But...It needed a little something to add interest....So, I thought...Let me try making a fabric garland.
I love it and it was sooooo easy. It took me under 2 hours from start to finish to make 20 feet of garland and that included choosing my fabric, tearing, and tying it.
Any size strips will work. I tore my strips approximately 3" wide by 10" long. I didn't do any measuring I just eyeballed the size and started tearing.
The best part was I used up tons of fabric scraps, bed sheets, old table runners that had holes, fabric from dresses that I bought at the thrift because I liked the fabric.
I did not use any special knot, I just tied the fabric strips on twine.....Quick and Easy!
I can see these being used as decoration in an antiques booth, a girls bedroom, baby and wedding showers, garden parties. How about Red, white, and blue fabric for a 4th of July party?
I know many of you have made fabric garlands....How and where have you've used them.
Happy Creating!
Carol
That is very pretty and looks cheery and like spring!! Nancy
ReplyDeleteThese are always super pretty and look easy to do, Carol! I love how yours turned out. I have not made one myself yet, but I have pinned a few of them to do at some point.
ReplyDeleteLove the selection of fabrics! Can't wait to see all of this come together.:) Thanks for sharing, Carol!
ReplyDeleteOh- I love it, Carol. Part of the appeal of yours is the gorgeous choice of sweet fabrics. What a fun way to dress something up. I think I am going to make one for each of the headboards of my granddaughter's twin beds when they get moved into their new home. xo Diana

ReplyDeleteCarol this is gorgeous. I love it and reminds me of the rag baskets I've been creating. I need to make a few of these too. Thanks for the inspiration. I have started rag roses now and it is a bit more work but fun.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric you used.
Have a great week.
Hugs
Carol, I love it! The fabric scraps are beautiful!! I am pinning and just adoring what you created. I may just make a burlap one for my spring mantel as I have a ton of burlap strips left over from my burlap rag wreath. I have missed blogging and visiting other blogs. Yours is always so amazing! Have a great week! ~ Jamie
ReplyDeleteI like all the dainty pink roses and other flowers, which makes a great spring effect.
ReplyDeleteI have one that I made with a string of lights and it goes up my stairway. I have two in my guest bath; one on the window draped over a lace swag and the other on a towel rack that I don't use. I love them! They're all over my house at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I need something to go over my French doors into the lanai! This is a great idea! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty garland! Happy sweet week! xo Holly

ReplyDeleteYes, I always have one matching the time of year in my New Bay Window. I tie them onto Candylight strands. With the Candylights they are a hard sell online at $30~$40 but not in person at the store. I do really good selling them in my Boutique. I Love yours Carol, all those Shabby Fabrics!! Next time I will add some of my cutter linens never thought of those, usually I use Ribbons, Lace and Bed sheets. Your Booth is going to be Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy!I wondered if they are tough to sell online but easier to sell in person?I have made a few and theyre so much fun!I've collected many prints of fabric and I would love a few marketing pointers!

soooooo cute! yikes, going to try this type of garland now! I have made the ones where it just hangs a little and the basic pennant (oh and if you fold over a circle doillie ~sp?~ over twine it makes a nice pennant)...thanks for the cute idea Carol!!
ReplyDeleteI love a quick and easy project and this one is so pretty. I've never made one either, but that will change. Thanks for sharing Carol.

I am another of the 10 crafters who has never made a fabric garland. I love yours! I like the look of all fabric and what a great way to put all your favorite fabrics on display. It looks amazing! You have inspired me :)--as you have done so many times! This is actually something I could do while watching one of my favorite shows.
ReplyDeletecute !!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the 10! But seeing this I will rectify that ... it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've never made one, but you've given me some ideas about using old fabrics. Thanks!
ReplyDeletewow, these are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt's on my list of things to make. I love your beautiful garland Carol!

ReplyDeleteI love this! I need to make one, but have to keep away from the K-3 (kitties) or they would be hanging off of it!
Linda
I have NEVER made one!!! Yours is so pretty! Love the fabric you used!!
ReplyDeleteStill snow around here :( I "heard" it may get to 60 on Saturday!!!
warmly,
deb
I have made many of these garlands, but none as pretty as this one. I love all your pretty pinks and roses. So so feminine. This would be awesome in a baby girl's room used as a valance.
ReplyDeleteI love making these too! My favorites are the ones I made using scraps of lace, seam binding, and cheese cloth. So light and airy. I tied some on a small (25 light) strand. When you plug them in they're kinda magical. Mimi
ReplyDeleteEleven. One of 11 crafters who've not made one {yet}. I'm number 11. But when I get done trying to replicate this adorable garland, well, you know!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kelley~
ohhh your booth is going to be sooo awesome !
ReplyDeleteHow about making one or two with polka dot fabric too ?
(())
Cute very cute
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever made one however I really think I could accomplish this project LOL
I like where you said you used up old fabric from vintage dresses.
That gives me an idea to use a large pink satin piece of fabric I have to make me a garland
That is so pretty. And you can reuse it after the show... which is getting close!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy Jo
It looks beautiful I have just bought metal rings to make rag wreaths to decorate my area at a craft show.
ReplyDeleteGRACIOSO Y BELLO..
ReplyDeleteGracias amiga :)))

After seeing this I decided that not only did I need one for my stairs I also needed to make this my next craft session with my niece! She has a shabby chic bedroom and is 10 (just as you predicted) somehow she got hers finished but I didn't so just hung what I had done up on one of my craft room shelves.....forget the stairs! The colours were a little bold but look fab in my craft room! Now I need it to be 3 times longer and I need to make one more like yours (thicker, fuller) for my stairs .... and then.... thinking yours would be spring like and swapping it for a (living) Christmas garland and now I'm thinking one for each season..... help!!! I still have a gazillion other half done projects! Why don't I have the motivation to complete one project before starting the next? I don't suppose any of you know what I'm talking about....do you?!......
ReplyDeleteI came back to bookmark this garland. I want to make one for my sunroom. I just need some material scraps! lol
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so smart.......just something so simple like using old sheets or thrift store dresses, I would have never thought of.
ReplyDeleteI made a garland for my daughter this week. I had the most fun, so much thatI made another one the next day! Today I am headed out to purchase more material!
