Estate Sale Finds

Last Saturday I spent the whole morning cleaning my garage.  When I finished I had a little talk with myself "You cannot stop at one more garage sale, thrift store, or estate sale, until you transform and sell what you already have"

After I finished I decided to run out and get a bite to eat, and there it was..........The homemade estate sale sign

It might as well have been framed with flashing neon lights!!

I actually said out loud "Oh no you don't, drive by"....But, I couldn't.  By 3pm on a Saturday....They practically give things away!

I bought everything for 80%-90% off the marked price!  First up, this adorable telephone table

A stack of vintage maps, check out that Pan American map of Rome!

I have plans for this cute little shelf

I love this solid antique wicker chair with a metal seat.  I plan on taking a wire brush to it, glueing the loose wicker, and sealing it all....Chippy at it's best

I bought this trivet because it was 50 cents and adorable, it was marked Lefton

Check out this card album from 1911

Now, I don't do a lot of paper crafting, but I just know I will find something to do with this book full of 1911 calling cards

Look at this card...Hemmingway...Hum, this is Florida, I'm sure it has to be one of THE Hemmingways!?

And finally this very heavy antique beveled cabinet door

I have plans for this baby

So, I had just cleaned my garage and decided I had enough stuff, then bought and shoved in more stuff, but I reminded myself of the many times I've had an empty garage and the thrifting well ran dry.....I have to buy it when I can......RIGHT?

Happy Creating!
Carol

  3. Your treasures are great!

I am beginning to think we all need a 12 step program...as this is a serious (and can I say fun?!) addiction..!

Plus I would of bought all of the stuff you did, with the thought..I will find something to do with that. I don't know any hoarders personally, is that what they say?!!

  7. Nothing is found when we are searching for something specific...However...take all you find when you are not looking and it arrives right in your arms! Your transformations are always stunning and you know everything you touch will sell!!! Blissful productive day dear.

  8. Yup, tell myself every day "NO MORE STUFF" and I mind myself just as well as mind you .. LOL.
    Those are great finds (())

  9. Carol- Soooo...Now you are talking to yourself and NOT listening?;>) What great finds! I'm glad you went back and ignored your "sensible sister" that was talking in your ear. xo Diana
ps. My Aunt Erma had a trivet just like that one-

  10. Advice is always subjective - even from yourself, right? RIGHT! And the nicest surprises are found when you least expect them. Can't take a chance of driving by those opportunities!

  11. *Sigh* I am so jealous! Never find anything remotely like that, even when I do get the chance (rarely) to go to estate sales...and every late sale I've attended had nothing worth buying, even at a massive discount..
My fave is the chair, so interesting...but the bevelled glass is worthy of coveting, too...congrats!

  12. LOL! You should consider it as "inventory" Carol! : ) Well, really it is, right? You got some great things and I think it was meant to be since you got it all at a great mark down. Love that table and the shelf is wonderful. I can only imagine how beautifully you are going to transform these items.

  13. RIGHT!! Great finds and now you can work that magic that you do so well!!

  14. I had the same talk with myself. Apparently, I don't listen to myself any more than I listen to anyone else.

I wouldn't have wanted to pass that stuff up either, especially that first little piece. Can't wait to see what you do with it. I'll be interested to see what you come up with for the calling cards, too.

  15. A bit overwhelmed with all your goodies, here - and moreso thinking of my own basement stocked full of "to-do" goodies. Though, a shrinking purse and space to put things is keeping me home and picky about where I'm estate sale-ing. Am going tomorrow to a bi-annual one - will post - and hope I don't break the bank . . .
    Joy!

  18. Awww Carol I woulda done exactly the same thing! Lol! No way I could pass up a sign like that. And great scores too! I hope you'll share your "afters". Vanna

  19. Carol,

You do not want to let your inventory get down too far! ;)

I tell myself weekly that I am not going to buy one more thing until I get some projects done...but a homemade estate sale sign - COME ON! Those are too rare to pass up and look at what you got. I cannot wait to see what you do with the telephone stand - after the wedding, of course. I would think projects are taking a hiatus until after the wedding.

I think the trivet would be a fun wedding gift, BTW!

  20. Great stuff, Carol! I don't blame you at all for buying more. You got them for a steal and it would have been a shame not to get them. You'll transform everything beautifully!

  21. But you always find the greatest things and then do the greatest things with them! How could you NOT stop?

  22. What great finds.. and you know you'd have kicked yourself if you had just driven by. You NEVER find what you're looking for when you go looking for it, right?
Can't wait to see what you do with all of those wonderful pieces.

  24. Nice. You know the best deals come when you're not really looking for them!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Of course you needed to buy these! Think of it as economic stimulus! Looking forward to seeing a transformation of these special finds. Have a great weekend.

  26. Great finds! I can't wait to see what you create with them. I can't pass up a sign like that either. Usually the Serendipitous ones are the best.

  27. I just love it, Carol. I swear I had this same conversation with myself!! I'm working on painting and upholstering a bunch of things just to rationalize stopping at another thrift store, sale, etc. I think the key is to have a designated spot to hoard, oops, I mean store stuff. When it's full, start fixing up and moving out, otherwise, it really gets out of hand. How do I know this? We've had a storage unit on our property while construction is going on and it's leaving in 10 days so all my finds have to go somewhere. Yikes!! Talk about a reality check!!!

  28. Hi Carol, You just described a moment that we have all experienced . . . I love the line, "It might as well have been framed with flashing neon lights!!" That said it all.

You do have to buy, when you see it and when the price is reduced by 80 and 90% . . . well, that in almost a sign from God, LOL.

    Great finds.
    Happy weekend.

    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

P.S. Did you get any winds or flooding from Sandy down there? All the news is New York and New Jersey, but the storm maps is much larger than that. Just wondering.

  32. Great finds! I love the little shelf that you got. I know how you feel about the goodies you find. I'm the same way about fabrics :/

  33. I don't blame you one bit for stocking up. You can't sell from an empty cart, a wise dealer told me once.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We are hopeless1 But a least you have a booth to sell them at!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh Carol {and all you other ladies posting comments here} - we could be such great friends! The only thing I love more than a great thrift store, garage sale or estate sale is looking at the treasures that other people find. I'm going to have to start looking for a booth - I just have too!

  36. You just described ME! Haha. But you can't turn down "finds" like that!
    Have a great weekend!

  37. Have you ever drug one of these furniture treasures home to find it had mold? Last night I did and opened a drawer and had a terrible allergy coughing, itching attack. How can I kill the mold without ruining the chippy table (enamel top). It is so cute but has mold in the drawer and little spots on the legs about killed me. Or, do I give up and trash it? I'm afraid to touch it now.

  38. Isn't it impossible to reach a happy medium? I promise myself to go to zero back up inventory and then I find treasures I can't pass up as well. Only it's not the garage that is my catch all, it's my office. Can't wait to see what you do with the mirror and that adorable telephone cabinet.

  39. Yes, how could you pass that sale up!
    Love your finds!

  45. Of course you have to buy it:) You scored some good loot. I have never been to and estate sale. Many garage sales but no estate. I want to go to one someday.

    ReplyDelete
  46. the best estate sales are the ones the family hosts rather than a liquidation company because they scoop up the best for themselves! Fab finds Carole..I would have loved to get my hands on that chair!

  47. You and me both! I don't know how many times I've told myself to sell what I already have before buying more. You never know when you're going to need more and won't be able to find it. Love all your fabulous finds and looking forward to some awesome transformations.

    ReplyDelete
  48. OF COURSE! You HAD to buy all of those treasures! What great finds!!! You're gonna be busy transforming all those finds!!! Can't wait to see the results!

    ReplyDelete
  49. What wonderful finds, Carol! And you would have been foolish indeed to pass on them, what with the mega-markdowns and unforeseen "dry thrifting well spells"!

Can't wait to see what you create with these treasures!
