I am sure I have a Crafting Attention Deficit Disorder. I am always jumping from one craft to another. This week it was all about doing some broken China mosaic projects.
A cute little step stool
And a Lucite hand mirror
The step stool was $2.93 find and was painted this great vintage green
It is so hot in Florida, when I bring the camera outside it gets all foggy
I painted it heirloom white
I like to lay most of my china pieces out in a pattern before I use the tile adhesive.
I did a little distressing to get some of the great vintage green paint to peak through.
This is a vintage $2.00 lucite mirror. There was a mirror on both sides, so one side was begging for a little mosaic.
Broken china and a vintage brooch, I really like the way it turned out!
I am going to put both of them in my antiques booth here in Orlando.
OK, now I have to tell you a funny story. My Mom called while I was working on the stool. I told her what I was doing and how cute it was turning out. Her only comment was "Well won't that tile make it slippery, how are people going to use it? "
You see, all of us crafty, shabby, people see a cute little step stool, and we start thinking about how cute it would be on our patios or in our houses with plants or nick nacks on it. The rest of the world see's a step stool and worry about slipping off!
Tell me I am not the only one that jumps from one craft to another! I have never been able to just sew or scrapbook for day's.

You did a beautiful job on that ladder, honey! Just darling and adorable.

Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see I am not the only one jumping from craft (project to project) to craft.
I have so many "almost finished" pieces it makes my head spin.
Oh well....so many creations...so little time!
P.S. Can you share which tile adhesive you use? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRoselle
Crafting ADD, yup, I got it big time. I think it keeps you fresh creatively...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Both projects are adorable!
ReplyDeleteRoselle asked which tile adhesive I use. I get it in the tile department at either Lowes or Home Depot. I use a one quart tub of premixed ceramic tile adhesive and grout, smooth white. I use it as a tile adhesive. For grout I use unsanded white that I mix, I like it better than the pre mixed.

I love it how shabby chic it looks and the mirror too, both will certainly sell:)
ReplyDeleteRondell
Very sweet step ladder and mirror all dressed up! Great job and YES...I jump from cleaning, crafting, blogging, etc... all day long and now I have a little Sweet Pea that distracts me all day :) I have one "barker" and I hope she doesn't pick up that habit!!! Sure would be fun to craft with you! It was 93 today and the humidity was 78... heat index was 103 !! YUCK!!!
ReplyDeleteH&H in MN!! (hot & humid)
Deb :)
Freshly creative instead of C-ADD, lol!! I think I'll start using that to describe my bad habit of working on too many projects at the same time. Now if I could just get my hubby to believe it, too!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I enjoy a variety of crafting stimulation, and lots of different projects.
ReplyDeleteI think both of your tile mosaics are lovely, especially the details on the mirror.
Cheers,
Laura
This is fascinating to me! I know NOTHING about mosics and it takes my breath away. BEAUTIFUL!

I think your mosaic work from the broken china is outstanding. I have made window boxes using broken china and know how much time and work you put into your projects...Nice job. If you would like to see my boxes, you can view my blog and look under my March/April (I believe) to see some on my cottage and also my cottage store.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to meet you and visit! Thank you so much, Karen
I think we all do that ADD thing from time to time, I would rather create OOAK items that the same ones all the time also! Cute ideas, love the mirror especially. Boring doing just 1 or 2 things always! XOXO Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNope. You are NOT the only one hopping from one craft to another. Heck, I have decorating ADD too.
ReplyDeleteI love both of the projects. I am very fond of broken china mosaics (mosaics of all kinds, actually)
I smiled about your mom. That would be my husband's comment, too.
Oh my dear...I think you are suffering with the same illness we all have.....LOVING CRAFTING!!!!! hee hee!!!! I jump about from one thing to another like a flea in a colander hahaha
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done with the steps, they look so pretty! XXX
The pieces turned out great..... I have always wanted to try the mosaic thing on something.... one of these days. Great Job Carol, I'm sure it will sell quickly!
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Day*
I have to have many things going...just call it multi-tasking if that makes you feel better! lol. Everything you made was lovely and I can almost hear my mother saying the same! Have a wonderful day. Beth
ReplyDeleteCarol, those turned out beautifully. Is this hard to do? I have a little table I want to refurbish for my bedroom. I was tossing around the idea of a crackle finish or decoupage, but I am in love with this concept. I'm doing my bedroom in a French Country/Vintage motif and something like this would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! La
I always jump from project to project - you are not alone! I love how your step stool turned out!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my little blog :-)
Hello Carol.... OH your step stool and mirror turned out beautiful... and what a cute story about your Mom,,, she sounds like my Sister,, she would have said that same thing.....lol I am sure they won't last long at your booth....

LOL ohhh my...I jump from painting to mosaic to florals to clay to faux cakes to jewelry making to furniture rehab to stained glass to ...ummm well you see you are NOT alone. And I have a sweet little red stepstool I couldn't leave alone either :)) I do wish I could focus.

What exquisite transformations Carol. I think all of us artsy types are jumpers. We appreciate so much visually and that inspires us to try different art forms. I know you've inspired me to break up some old china today!
ReplyDeleteYour conversation with your mother made me laugh. My garage sale friends are usually perplexed by what I consider great finds.
Thanks for another wonderful post.

Beautiful job! LOL....your mom....
ReplyDeleteCarol, I just looove this little ladder makeover! It turned out amazing!! Nice job :) I was going to fill you in on your comment about the demask painting on the mirror...I just used gold acrylic and burnt umber colored acrylic. It WILL however scratch off if you knicked at it...but I figured I'd just easily dust it and windex around it and it'd suffice, ha! Easy as that! Hope your weekend is terrific, missy! :)

Ha ha....your Mom sounds like mine. Last time I took her antiquing with me I picked up some old linens and she said, and very loudly I might add,..."how do you know those are old?". Argh! She never has understand my fascination with vintage especially since she grew up on a farm with just old stuff. It's true about the little wooden step stools. We bought an ol' beat up one with chippy peely paint for my daughter-in-law's front porch and then we put little silver metal pots with her house numbers on it up the steps. Very cute! Love your mosaics Carol! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYes, Carol, I am guilty of going from one project to another. We creative types just cannot help ourselves! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe laddar is so sweet. My Mom could never understand the creativity process either. Not sure where I got it from.
hugs
Sissie
Hello sweets! Excellent job on the stool and mirror. I love it and you will be first on my list if the sassy purse needs a new home. I am with you, i had no idea step ladders had a practical use!!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Olivia
Oh. they both came out wonderful! And nope, you are not the only "jumping from one thing to another crafter" out there! LOL
ReplyDeleteI LOOVE this ladder!! WHat an awesome job!!! I never would have thought to have done something like this with a ladder.
ReplyDeleteI got a kick out of your previous post on giveaways- I have won several giveaways and almost feel guilty! So many never win and like you I entered hundreds then, bam, jackpot time!! It is fun!
Thanks so much for voting for my arbor! I so appreciate it!!

Ah Carol I always move from one project to the next and I have to be firm with myself to get things done, ha! Your work is beautiful! If I lived near you I just might run down and get that step stool!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jacalyn
Carol, I love that you do mosaic...I want to know how you do it...I attempted one day, and stopped because I have no clue! Yours are lovely. We are still on vaca...last day here in Florida...kids going with the grandparents today and overnight YAY is all I can say to that:) I have my B & A party link up. Debbie
ReplyDeleteCarol, What a couple of really cute craft projects! Love how they came out. Too funny a remark about the slippage issue. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou start craft projects and I begin decorating projects...
Visiting from Debbie's.
Oh Carol, your mom's comment made me smile! And she's right, it is still a step stool, after all! I'm crazy about mosaics and I'm so impressed you do this craft. I haven't tried it yet. And I'm exactly the same way, I have so many painting projects going on that some days I don't know where to start. P.S. Thanks for the nice comment!
ReplyDeleteWell I thought the tile grout would add some friction to the stool..lol! I too have been doing 2-3 projects at once. I found it worked well while I was waiting for somehting to dry off! I would like to do a mosaic behind my hand mirror too. What tile adhesive/grout did you use? Happy crafting!
ReplyDeleteSandy xox
I am soooo CADD! Its funny that I have several post this week about projects that I have been putting off forever. I always love your mosaic projects and the stool and mirror are wonderful. I had to laugh at your mom's comment...I get a lot of those type comments from friends that just don't get my style.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
Fantastic project. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeletexo
beautiful job!! Love mosaic work!
ReplyDeleteWhat great tile mosaics you have shared with us today!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic job!!
Debbie
Hello Carol!
ReplyDeleteI came by way of Debbie's party. Your step stool and hand mirror turned out quite lovely. I love your header! The next time I am in Orlando I will have to stop by your shop. I was just in that area last weekend.

LOL...I'm glad I'm not the only one with Craft Attention Deficit Disorder! :)
ReplyDeleteSo Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteSo that's what I have! C-ADD! Well, at least I have a name for it so it makes me feel better. And just today my friend was laughing at me for jumping from project to project. I've been studying your mosaic tutorials and have made my first little clock (total price $1.50) from Goodwill. Now I'm going to tackle a table given to me today. Go check them out. Oh, and BTW, your garden is just lovely!
