Transforming an ugly little hanging shelf with paint, wallpaper, and a free porcelain rose.
Everyone but us would pass right by this ugly little $3.00 shelf.
After a few coats of heirloom white paint and Laura Ashley wallpaper.
Now I just did not like this key hole detail
This is where the free porcelain rose comes in. I did a tutorial HERE
Basically it is just chiseling flowers off from old nick nacks.
This flower came off a broken candy dish and It fit perfectly over the key hole in the shelf.
But still had a lot of the candy dish still on the back
This is where my Dremel came into play. I did a post HERE on the Dremel. You can see the part here that had to be ground down,
I ground it down and added a dab of paint
I adhered it to the key hole with E-6000 glue
So there you have it my little shelf with a free porcelain rose. This was another project that I wanted to keep, but we all know we can't keep everything so, I put this in my antiques booth for $28.00
Don't pass up the broken or chipped nick nacks with flowers from estate sales or thrift stores, they can be used for so many altered art projects. Here is a couple of examples using chipped off porcelain flowers. These items are available at my online store The Polka Dot Closet.

Oh my goodness... I have the VERY SAME SHELF! How funny is that? I got mine for $2-- I used old book pages to cover the back of mine. I use it in my studio to hold jar fairies. You did a lovely job fixing up yours :-)
You are so creative! And I want to tell you, I did it! I rented a space at our local Antique and Crafters Market. It's small but that okay to start. I have a 4 month lease and then month to month after that. Thank you for inspiring me. I'll put up pictures of it soon.

OK... I feel like standing up and shouting EUREKA!! I love this and can't tell you how many broken things like that I have either glued and reclued or propped up in such a way as to hid the broken parts or TOSSED away. UGH. I am so definitely going to remember this.
And I love the shelf!

That's a great idea! Sometimes all those little shelves need is someone like you to give them new life! I just sold a shelf similar to yours but it had a little drawer on the bottom. I painted it heirloom white and shabbied it up really heavily.
Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I'm so glad that you found one of those sweet little clothing hanger/valet stands and gave it the shabby look. I just found another one at an estate sale the other day and it's getting the white treatment. Oh, it's never ending, is it?

I love it! Very, very pretty. My mom used to take flowers off of old stuff and glue it on something new, but they never turned out this pretty.

did it sell yet? It's so sweet and I love the wall paper Carol. I need to start picking up those little porcelain jewelry boxes I see with chipped flowers to use for projects. Last weekend I saw the most fabulous tall lingerie chest I was itching to buy. It's not something I would have put on the website but perfect for a shop, which I don't have yet. It would have been stunning painted a cream color with hand painted roses on it. Darn...I should have bought it and put it in the shed. Oh well....
