Adding Flowers and Jewels To A Dresser Mirror Tray

Dressing up that plain mirror tray.

Plain gold mirror trays can be found at any antique store, any day.

But, whether your mirror tray is for yourself or for sale, it is always fun to make it one of a kind.

If the mirror is removable I spray it, first with primer, and then with heirloom white paint.

Now I go to my drawer of free porcelain flowers

The free porcelain flower post is here, but the cliff notes are to just chisel the flowers off from damaged nick nacks you pick up at the thrift stores for a dollar or two.

Attach with E-6000 glue and you're all set!

You now have a one of a kind heirloom mirror tray

Now, if I find a tray where the mirror cannot be removed, I do not try to paint it.

I like to attach vintage jewels and rhinestones

Now you have a one of a kind dresser tray

Just throwing out some ideas to get your creative minds churning!

Happy Creating!

Carol

  4. Carol,
What a great idea to chisel those beauties off!! I have passed up on some just because the piece itself was either a little too damaged or just plain not my taste with the exception of the flowers. Thanks for sharing Carol!!

  9. My older daughter was dying for a dresser tray mirror so I found one at a garage sale. She's coming home tomorrow. I can't wait to show her this post.

And btw, ever since that porcelain flower post, I've been on the lookout for broken porcelain. I've even eyed some at the house that ought to get um... accidentally dropped.

It's such a wonderful idea. One of my (many) favorites from here.

  18. Love your ideas. I was going to put some porcelain posies in my yard sale, but have now changed my mind. I have sprayed trays with mirrors that don't come out. I cover the mirror with several layers of newspapers and use painters tape. Am still going to make it to your booth in hopes of meeting you. Enjoy St. Augustine.

  21. I love this. I have seen the porcelain flowers on cheap trinkets and I think of you. I hesitate to buy them because I figure I will break them trying to get them off. I'm a spaz. LOL

  22. Hi Carol,
You never cease to amaze me with the lovely things that you create and alter. I have tried doing things with these basically plain mirrors such as rub on letters for words, painting them different colors, but nothing as fab as the roses and jewelry. Great idea and I'm going to have to borrow it!
