It's A Really Big Day! In My Booth, What's Selling, and Whats Not

Finally it sold!

I have blogged off and on about this little table that wouldn't sell.  I have had it for sale almost a  year!

I posted in January about this little table, at that time I pulled it out of my booth and painted it white.  It has been in my booth since August!  It was a gorgeous little table and priced right, go figure!

The table finally sold to Sweet Josie a follower.  She drove an hour to Orlando to buy the Bird bench from this post and probably thought
"Poor Carol she still has this table"!

Josie, thank you, I hope you enjoy the table and the bird bench.

I hope I don't have Creepy lady  for a year.  She has not sold yet and every time I go to my booth she is in a different spot, she is never where I left her.......CREEPY.

She definitely needs a new home!

And finally I have had a ton of fun trying my hand at altering vintage clothes.

The slip I altered and showed you HERE sold immediately to a college student.

We have a private college close to the antique store and the young people are always shopping in the store.  They are interested in really old stuff like from the 1970's and 80's..........GROAN!

I was wondering for those of you that have booths, antique stores, or even antique shoppers, if you are seeing an increase in young people shopping for antiques?

Happy Creating!

Carol

  2. That's a lovely dress, I would have bought it. Well if it fit me... they never do.

Glad you finally sold that table. I know I had a gorgeous hutch that was killing me to part with. It sat and sat in my booth for months. It was taunting me to bring it home but I needed to make money. Ended up selling it on clearance when we closed the store.

  3. Hi Carol - So happy for your sale! The bench is beautiful; I'm not surprised that it sold so quickly. I got a chuckle out of your comment about the 70's and 80's being filled with "really old stuff"! It's all in our personal perspective I guess! Our mothers probably thought the same thing about us!

  4. YES, to the question of young antique buyers. Mike and I have been doing it for years. However, I notice each time we go, there are young people now. They look for camera's, and even my younger son looks for military stuff. Pretty cool indeed. Carol, I am so happy that table sold. It was beautiful, I could not understand why it took so long. Get rid of the creepy chick...it is me moving her LOL!~

  5. It's good to hear that the little table finally sold; it looked so much better after you painted it. Love what you did with the slip.
Yes, I've noticed younger people are buying more vintage these days, especially my jewelry.

  6. I just love that little table and am glad it has a new home. Your altered clothes are fabulous and I can totally see the young college students buying them. Yes, how old from the 70's and 80's! If only they knew the fun they missed and no technology to keep us teathered 24/7!!! Wonderful weekend my dear...

  7. Time to celebrate the table selling.."CHEERS"...
Since I don't work any hours at the antique store, I have no idea on the age of shoppers. At HQ the shopper's ages are all over the range.
Creepy girl...I hope she sells soon...
Have a Lovely Weekend! It's finally WONDERFUL Today!!
    Warmly,
    deb

  8. I see younger people buying as well -- vintage industrial and mid century modern items in particular. Younger nesters following current vintage design trends, perhaps?

  9. I love that pretty slip! I think a lot of young people want vintage clothing to have something different...that they can afford! ♥

  12. Yes I do see lots of young people buying antiques...but most people seem to be young to me these days! I have suddenly begun noticing how young everyone is...I am at that age where I go to more funerals than weddings..I am not sure how I feel about that. I was walking up some stairs into a huge mirror and didn't even recognize ME...sigh...but I still make lottsa things those young whippersnappers wanna buy!
Oh how I wish I could wear that slip though...

  13. Hahaha...well, i'm from the 60s and 70s, but I am not an antique...I'm vintage. :o) It's all in the perspective I guess.

I'm sure Josie loves her new goodies. The slip is very pretty, but Creepy Lady....

  14. I do notice younger people loving antiques and vintage things nowadays...Wait, I'm 24. Does that still count as young? I've gotten all my friends to love antiques too. Which is great! I just hate the hideous plywood stuff and everything is sooo plastic these days. Antiques just have more detail and more of a story. I'm sooo happy with my bench and my new table. The table has a new home at my bedside. I love it! & the bench is waiting for the thunderstorm season to end so it can sit pretty on my patio. Thank you so much Carol! I promise I will take very good care of your creations. Happy weekend!

  15. Carol-

I always LOVE your entertaining posts! Creepy Lady--hilarious!

Recently, I have seen a young fellow in the Antique Mall dressed very late 60's/early 70's with the suede vest and bell bottom slacks...he even has feather hair. So groovy!

One day I stopped him and he was telling me that he LOVES the late 60's and he just bought a Stones album during his last visit...(I wonder if this guy even has a record player???)

Another time, I saw a young couple scooping up several vintage suitcases...including one from my booth. Come to think of it, I actually have seen many young folks buying the Vintage suitcases from my booth... :)

  16. Congratulations on your Sales!! I Loved the Bench too! :( Yes, keep up creating the Vintage clothes, slips, dresses, skirts etc. The younger ones are buying them because they can't afford Anthropology(neither can I)! My little Mall is slow this time of year, I was told it's because of the Snowbirds. Oh well this is my first year being in a Antique Mall so next year I will have something to compare it too!!
    Have a Great Week~end!!

  19. I had a feeling when I saw the thumbnail that THE table had sold! I wish I lived closer because I want to browse your shop in a big way. I'm just not a good online shopper. I even told the husband that we needed to road trip to Orlando some day. Actually, I was yakking all about your "story" to him last night.

BTW, I was struck with a sick spell right after I read your previous post and never got to my anniversary getaway.

Instead, I was bed bound and watching the trial.

Just want to comment that I have changed my mind about her "poor" family. I now think they are ALL a hot mess and don't feel sorry for the first one of them but poor Caylee.

    Anyway...

  20. Hi Carol!
Finally!!! Yip, Yip, Yipee! The little table now has a new home. Sometimes we are just glad to see some things go. I get tired of moving them around.
I love the altered slip and I can see a young college girl wearing that tiny thing!
We see lots of young people shopping in our booths, especially for shabby chic furniture, vintage hats and purses.

    hugs

  21. Lucky Carol :) I'm happy for you selling so many things that really deserve a great home!
    Especially the dress is gorgeous!
I figured that a lot of young people, including myself, got interested in old things. Not only "old looking" but also really old things.
    Have a wonderful weekend Carol,
    Dina

  22. CONGRATS on the sold table! I know you are thrilled to have that gone. Maybe you should have saved creepy lady for Halloween. Throw a witch's hat on her. Maybe she'll sell faster than. LOL

As for young people, I remember when I was in high school, there was this group that we called left over hippies. Forget this was back in the early 90s. My Mom used to pick me up from school and giggle when she'd overhear these kids talking about some "new" music they found and how "cool" it was, and turns out it was from back in her day. They used to wear clothes from the 60s and 70s too.

The rest of us found them weird, so I've been surprised that more young people are picking up on the "old" stuff too. And I shudder that they think the 80s is old since I was a child of that era!

  23. What on earth is wrong with those people? That table was great both stained and white! I am glad that nice follower bought both..she won't regret it...I have a very similar table and love it...it goes anywhere!! The creepy girl needs a bonnet and pearls...maybe that would help! And yes, lots of young people buy from me...the DO love that 70's look...Why? I have NO idea..been there, done that..unfortunately!
    Love it all, Carol!

  24. Hi Carol, I'm happy your items sold, I loved that table in white. I'm just catching up on all of your creativeness, looking at the clay/plaster mold, ingenious! Are you going to be in town about 7/18? I'm taking my daughter for orientation and want to stop in.

  25. Loved that dress/slip!! I have twin daughters who are 20 and they LIVE for vintage. Sadly, yes. They love the 'really old' stuff from the 70's but they also are huge fans of the 40's and 50's. THAT I can handle :) Sorry but I think you may be stuck with creepy girl :)
