Water Slide Decal Table

In my last post I shared the exciting news that I had an article on "How to make and use water slide decals" in The November 2011 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine 

OK, I have finally calmed down.  Thank you for all of your sweet comments!  

Now, I get to show you the water slide decal projects I have been working on, I have been dying to show you, but didn't think it would be appropriate until the magazine came out

The complete tutorial and all of the info is in the post I did last March on using water slide decals

Here was the subject, a little thrift store table
I painted it a light blue then laid a paper doily I sprayed with temporary adhesive and used it as a stencil.  I covered the center of the doily with a cardboard circle. 
 Then used a make up sponge and craft paint to lightly blot on some brown paint 
I printed a graphic from the fabulous Graphics Fairy onto water slide decal paper, and applied it to the center of the table
I put on two coats of wipe on poly acrylic and put it in my booth at Orange Tree where it sold immediately

Just think of all of the furniture projects you could do!

I have a question..So many of you inquired about purchasing decal paper, I am thinking of selling blank water slide decal paper at The Polka Dot Closet (My on line store), but wanted to see if there was any interest as I would have to buy in large quantities to get the best price.  The online stores charge so much for shipping.  I would make it competitive and shipping from The Polka Dot Closet is only $2.99.  I'm not looking for any kind of a commitment, just your thoughts!

    I would love to try a project with decal paper. So yea I'll be interested in some decal paper.
    I really like your table, no wonder it sold right away. If my work was in a magazine I'd be tooting my own horn ALOT... so toot da toot da toot toot toot!! :)

    If I should ever decide water slide decal something, I'd buy the paper from you if you were selling it.

    I'm not sure what your initail investment would be, but I know I'd rather buy from a fellow blogger myself than anyone else!
    You could also sell in your shop too.
    As always, this is a great project. The difference between before and after is amazing!

    Well I just went back and read your tutorial post....The program you mentioned is that the Pages one we talked about...Because if so I am certainly going to have to get it...Not that I wasn't already thinking about it....And even told my husband what you had said.... And of course if Aunt Carol says so then it is a MUST... : ) I LOVE the whole water slide thing it looks like a lot of fun and endless possibilities.... : )

    Oh I would Deffinately buy some Papers from you...

    How awesome you got "featured" in the magazine! :D Looks great!!
    The table got beautiful! I like the idea of using the doily as a stamp.

    Well I would be interested in that paper! I would have to pay more for the shipping though but I don't know how much it would cost to ship overseas. You know we don't have such fun stuff here...I always have to order in the US. : /
    But I'd rather support you than a big company ;)

    I would be interested Carol as I am moving towards doing more furniture restoration and the decals might be the perfect look for what I am thinking of doing. I haven't priced any yet but if I am going to order some I would be happy to send the business your way rather than to a box store.

    I agree with "Camp and Cottage Living" - I would rather buy it from a fellow blogger than from ebay or something. I have to admit, I'd probably see if it was at Michaels first so I could save on shipping - but if I ended up having to order it, I'd definitely buy it from you! Love your little table - you picked the perfect decal for it!

    Hi Carole, If it's any help I just got 10 sheets for $8 plus $4 shipping from US to Canada which was very good... on ebay it was $7.95 for THREE sheets plus $4 shipping, some companies were charging as much as $15 to ship three sheets! Don't know if that bit of info is any use to you at all!

    All that said, if you had them I would rather buy from you than search the web and pay extortionate shipping.

    Hi Carol, Your project turned out gorgeous. I can certainly see it selling asap.
    I have that same graphic, but I do a technique using a glaze over the design after painting the surface with details etc. I think the decal papers are a great idea too and may save a few steps. Is it glossy using the paper or matte finish? I paint lots of furniture and was just wondering. If you decide to carry it in your shoppe, I would try it and purchase from you.

    I just went back to review what exactly there were and how to use them. I definitely think you should sell the papers to do this. Some of your prettiest projects come from them.

    I saw the sweetest old crib the other day at a yard sale with the most precious teddy bear decal on it. Wanted to buy it but I didn't. I don't see many vintage packs of decals anymore. Used to see them a lot.

    That is cute Carol. I just saw in better homes and gardens they used a doily like that for a pumpkin...I may have to try that. I think I would try the water slide decals for sure if you had them.
