In my last post I shared the exciting news that I had an article on "How to make and use water slide decals" in The November 2011 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine
OK, I have finally calmed down. Thank you for all of your sweet comments!
Now, I get to show you the water slide decal projects I have been working on, I have been dying to show you, but didn't think it would be appropriate until the magazine came out
The complete tutorial and all of the info is in the post I did last March on using water slide decals
Here was the subject, a little thrift store table
I painted it a light blue then laid a paper doily I sprayed with temporary adhesive and used it as a stencil. I covered the center of the doily with a cardboard circle.
Then used a make up sponge and craft paint to lightly blot on some brown paint
I printed a graphic from the fabulous Graphics Fairy onto water slide decal paper, and applied it to the center of the table
I put on two coats of wipe on poly acrylic and put it in my booth at Orange Tree where it sold immediately
Just think of all of the furniture projects you could do!
I have a question..So many of you inquired about purchasing decal paper, I am thinking of selling blank water slide decal paper at The Polka Dot Closet (My on line store), but wanted to see if there was any interest as I would have to buy in large quantities to get the best price. The online stores charge so much for shipping. I would make it competitive and shipping from The Polka Dot Closet is only $2.99. I'm not looking for any kind of a commitment, just your thoughts!
I have more water slide decal projects to show you so....Stay tuned!
Happy Creating!
Carol
So pretty, I love it:-)
ReplyDeleteHugs, Biljana
I would love to try a project with decal paper. So yea I'll be interested in some decal paper.
ReplyDeleteI really like your table, no wonder it sold right away. If my work was in a magazine I'd be tooting my own horn ALOT... so toot da toot da toot toot toot!! :)
Hugs,
Melissa
I have no doubt that this table sold immediately, it's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIf I should ever decide water slide decal something, I'd buy the paper from you if you were selling it.
yes I'll buy them from you. That would really help. Love love the table and it's no surprise it sold fast.
ReplyDeleteCarol
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what your initail investment would be, but I know I'd rather buy from a fellow blogger myself than anyone else!
You could also sell in your shop too.
As always, this is a great project. The difference between before and after is amazing!
Carol,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your fabulous table selling right away. I think it looks fantastic.
As for the new adventure, if you don't try, you will never know, so I say go for it. Good luck to you,
Char
Ok...I will ask a question, and then you can roll your eyes, and wonder what planet I am on...but what is the difference of water slide paper?
ReplyDeleteI would definitely be interested in purchasing the decal paper from you. Your beautiful pieces are SO inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWell I just went back and read your tutorial post....The program you mentioned is that the Pages one we talked about...Because if so I am certainly going to have to get it...Not that I wasn't already thinking about it....And even told my husband what you had said.... And of course if Aunt Carol says so then it is a MUST... : ) I LOVE the whole water slide thing it looks like a lot of fun and endless possibilities.... : )
ReplyDeleteOh I would Deffinately buy some Papers from you...
Carol, I would buy some from you. Love your projects and congratulations on your publication. I ran upstairs and grabbed my Romantic Homes and there you were! That is so great. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome you got "featured" in the magazine! :D Looks great!!
ReplyDeleteThe table got beautiful! I like the idea of using the doily as a stamp.
Well I would be interested in that paper! I would have to pay more for the shipping though but I don't know how much it would cost to ship overseas. You know we don't have such fun stuff here...I always have to order in the US. : /
But I'd rather support you than a big company ;)
Love, Dina
I would be interested Carol as I am moving towards doing more furniture restoration and the decals might be the perfect look for what I am thinking of doing. I haven't priced any yet but if I am going to order some I would be happy to send the business your way rather than to a box store.

Congrats on the article - fabulous! Im not surprised this flew out of your booth - its a beauty! Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteI'd buy the decal paper from you if I make any. I've never done it but you make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteI agree with "Camp and Cottage Living" - I would rather buy it from a fellow blogger than from ebay or something. I have to admit, I'd probably see if it was at Michaels first so I could save on shipping - but if I ended up having to order it, I'd definitely buy it from you! Love your little table - you picked the perfect decal for it!
Nan
Hi Carole, If it's any help I just got 10 sheets for $8 plus $4 shipping from US to Canada which was very good... on ebay it was $7.95 for THREE sheets plus $4 shipping, some companies were charging as much as $15 to ship three sheets! Don't know if that bit of info is any use to you at all!
ReplyDeleteAll that said, if you had them I would rather buy from you than search the web and pay extortionate shipping.
xx
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteI will buy them from you in a heartbeat! I just love this sweet little round table and the decal. Count me in.
hugs
Sissie
I'm not surprised at all that it sold right away, it's fabulous. You are so talented!

I would try this in a minute, and would buy from you. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteThat tsble was beautiful, somebody bought a treasure! Congratulations on being featured in the magazine. I would love to try this. I hope you offer the paper.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try the water decal process and I'd be glad to buy the paper from you. Especially since you will provide information on how to use the product! A low shipping and competative price on the paper sounds good too! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I was wondering - are you a self taught artist? You have SO many ideas that just don't quit.
ReplyDeleteYou re so creative!
Have a pretty day!
Kristin
What a transformation in that small table. Beautiful.

Oh my goodnes...this is soooo PRETTY!!! I'm so happy that you came by and shared thi table at my party.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Hi Carol, Your project turned out gorgeous. I can certainly see it selling asap.
ReplyDeleteI have that same graphic, but I do a technique using a glaze over the design after painting the surface with details etc. I think the decal papers are a great idea too and may save a few steps. Is it glossy using the paper or matte finish? I paint lots of furniture and was just wondering. If you decide to carry it in your shoppe, I would try it and purchase from you.
Congrats on your feature in RH. So exciting!
Thank you for sharing this idea.
XO Celestina Marie
I just went back to review what exactly there were and how to use them. I definitely think you should sell the papers to do this. Some of your prettiest projects come from them.
ReplyDeleteThe table is just lovely!
Hi Carol, I've never heard of water slide decal paper...am curious to see more.
ReplyDeleteSylvia
yes I have been loving your posts and being the crafty sort trying your ideas I would buy water slide paper not in bulk (yet :) ) but some
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this idea - your table turned out beautifully! I can see why it sold so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI saw the sweetest old crib the other day at a yard sale with the most precious teddy bear decal on it. Wanted to buy it but I didn't. I don't see many vintage packs of decals anymore. Used to see them a lot.
ReplyDeleteyour table turned out beautifully- I like the use of the dolly to add the flower stencil effect.
ReplyDeleteThat is cute Carol. I just saw in better homes and gardens they used a doily like that for a pumpkin...I may have to try that. I think I would try the water slide decals for sure if you had them.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol~What a great idea, just beautiful your table turned out :)
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your feature, sooo happy or you :)
xo~Mari
Hi Sweet Carol....I would buy some! I live so far away from any place I can buy supplies so I do most my art supply shopping online. If you do start selling this, count me in!

Keep up the GREAT work carol!
I just bought an old tray that could use a makeover and a water slide decal would be perfect. I would be interested in buying the decal paper from you if you decide to supply.
ReplyDeleteLove your table!!!
You bet I would buy from a blogger friend. Consider me a customer. I would love to give this a try and I have a few tables in mind for the project! How soon did you say you would have some to sell? Thanks for offering and for the tutorial, which I am off to see right now.
ReplyDelete~ ~Ahrisha~ ~
Me, too! I'd certainly be customer of yours if shipping was that cheap! Sign me up, Carol, and let me know when you have some in stock!! :)

Thank you for the idea! Now we can use my rubber stamps! I wish I can learn how to use polymer clay like you!
ReplyDeleteCount me in on the water slide pages. However, I only have an inkjet printer right now. That might be a problem.
