I'm loving this lace folding screen, now what am I going to do with it?
I didn't get a before picture because I didn't think the "After" would be "Blog worthy", but I thought it turned out so pretty that I wanted to share it with you
It was originally a brown metal folding screen with canvas inserts, I removed the canvas and spray painted it with heirloom white
Then it sat in my garage as I contemplated what fabric I should use for the inserts........Ding Dong.......My neighbor comes to the door. "I just took these lace curtains down in my bedroom and I was wondering if you would like them".........."I've had them for years every since we moved in the house, I guess that would make them vintage" ....What..I'm one lucky girl!
All I did was put a hem in the bottom, the top was already finished for curtains rods
I made a flower from lace and then pinned it on so it could be easily removed
Ok, I love it.... it looks great, but now what am I going to do with it? When I bought the screen it was in 4 pieces and I did not realize how big it was. It's tooooo big to fit in my booth at Orange Tree and I have no room for it in my little house. The only thing I can think of is to try Craigslist, I have sold a few things on Craigslist in the past. My experience with Craigslist is that I have to practically do a "Curb alert" (That's where you put a post on Craigslist when you are putting something on your curb) to get rid of something. So, short of getting a bigger booth do you have any ideas, whats your experience been with Craigslist?
Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you...I really do!
Happy Creating!
Carol
Ooo I saw a roughed up screen at the antique market and never thought that it could turn out so cute once it's been fixed up.

If i lived close enough to you to make it practical, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands..you did a wonderful job...
ReplyDeleteCan you make it 2 screens of 2 panels each....I have a screen that was 3 and it was too big. We just undid one panel and it fit better. That way you could keep one...and sell one....just a thought!!
ReplyDeleteHow great is that, very blog worthy. You will love having the screen, I can imagine many uses. Enjoy, Kathy
ReplyDeleteWow!!...Carol that's gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
That screen is great--I love it! Would have enjoyed the before picture..but I can imagine. I really wouldn't have room for it either--but I would have tried to find a place if I lived close to you because it is just so darn girly and pretty! It seems like you could sell it on Craigs List. I know what you mean though...I rarely sell on Craigs list-but I bought my Ikea Ekrop couch for $35! People just give stuff away it seems.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely feminine, thank you for your creative and inspiring talents that you are so graciously willing to share with others! I just sold a table and chairs on Craigslist yesterday, trying to get rid of many things, as I am moving to Florida from Washington State, yeah. I have found that it is a hit and miss on Craigslist. I have sold just about everything that I have listed, however it may take a few weeks of listing, also the price that I get is usually lower than if I were to list it on Etsy, but better than garage sale prices and way less work! I also meet the person at a public parking lot, as I live in a rural area and my husband works nights, just want to stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Carol. The lace is is so pretty and the flower is the perfect finishing touch. I've had a lot of luck selling things on Craigslist, mostly things I've used in the house for years and just wanted to get rid of. I actually sold some palm trees and they were gone within an hour after listing them. Just make sure you have it outside and never let anyone come inside to see something. Would there be room in your booth if you displayed it folded up?
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! I wish I could think of somewhere to put it, I'd come get it. I do always have good luck selling things on Craigslist.
ReplyDeleteThere are also on line garage sales on facebook too.
betty
Forgot to mention this before, but a screen like this could be used very successfully as a temporary, or permanent, window covering..for privacy or to deflect the sun, etc..and it will look fabulous..that is what I would use it for*sigh*
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Wish I lived nearby because I'd be right over to bring it to my house. I do like the idea of keeping 2 or 3 for yourself.♥♫
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I can't imagine it not selling to the right person for the right price. I love Craigslist but have found it really depends on the area I'm in. Some places we've lived, it seems you have to give things away on there. Other places it seems people beat my door down. Hopefully you'll hit it lucky. It's worth a try!
ReplyDeleteYou always find the best goodies! I love it. I dont like Craigslist. It's ok for buying but I don't like it to sell. For one thing the scammers (no, I don't want to hook up with you and put a shirt on for crying out loud!), and second we are outside Houston, so you have to drive miles just to meet someone only to be told.....it's not as big or its smaller than I expected. For me, selling on CL not worth time and effort. Best of luck! Diane
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm jealous! I'd certainly take it if I weren't so far away. You ARE a lucky girl! I'll have to put my son in law on alert. He manages our local Habitat for Humanity Restore. He finds me goodies wayyyy too often.
ReplyDeleteSomeone suggested maybe you could show it in your booth if you folded it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea! Just put that beautiful rose on the panel that shows. I imagine you could get a better price in your shop. Don't know much about selling, but just feels right to me.
Good luck for a quick sale! Hugs, Maki
Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteDing-dong!!! I love it when things just show up on the doorstep like that.
So, do you know anyone with a shop or boutique that could use it in their window display,or floor display?
Maybe where you get your hair done? Maybe they would let you put a tag on it and see if it sells? That's if they have the room and you're on very good terms with them?
Maybe you could store it and use it for the fancy flea next go around.
Although if you store it you run the risk of it getting damaged.
Come on Carol...you know you'll think of something to do with it,ha!
Pat
I love love love it! If it were smaller, I think it would work at my daughter's apartment and make you an offer. She would like to eventually get something that would shield the bed nook without stealing the light. Her space is uber small though.
ReplyDeleteOn that note: Could you save it for use during the wedding stuff this fall? I can picture a beautiful cake set within it's panels. Maybe the newlyweds can use it in their place (or if they move back...wishful mom thoughts here)
It's too pretty to get rid of. JMO.
BTW, I sent another blogger this way for water slide decals. I hope she stops by.
ReplyDeleteI've had moderate success on Craigslist with my larger pieces. You do get an assortment of 'strange' people and those who want you to give the stuff away. This is so beautiful -- and since you can't use it, I'm sure someone else will snatch it up! LOL - I had one lady email me about a glass-topped, vintage side table I made over. I PAID 15.00 for it and then totally re-did it and listed it for 40.00. She offered me 15.00 -- wow. She was astounded that I would ask that much for an "old" piece of furniture.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! It turned out so pretty! I would fold it up, take it to your booth and keep it folded up but attach a picture of it unfolded.
ReplyDeleteThat screen is so pretty. You did an amazing job on it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as usual, Carol! I would have loved to have seen the before....bummer :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteYeah Carol what Ceekay said! Two panels, that way you can enjoy the lovliness!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I have neighbors like that! The screen is so lovely that it would be nice if you could put at least half of it in your booth just for looks.
Too pretty to give away.
hugs
Sissie
Soo lovely Carol! But then that's no surprise!! :o)
ReplyDeleteThe 8th will be great! I'll be in touch before then!
Hugs!
Becky
It is lovely..you did a great job!
ReplyDeletechris
Can you split it into two, Carol? It might fit in your booth better. Or maybe just fold it up so only two sections appear to be open. It's very pretty; I hope you figure it out!
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH! I wish I lived closer I would buy that in a heartbeat! I just absolutely LOVE it! I have no experience with CList at all. Good luck and I am betting someone will snap it up in a heartbeat- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI think making a 2 two screen is a great idea!!! Then you would make more money!
ReplyDeleteWe sold(gaveaway) a table and chairs on craigslist...try your booth anyway! You know it will sell there!
I appreciate you TOO!!!
Warmly,
deb :)
How beautiful Carol and that's what I was thinking too...maybe try and split it into two? Anyway, it's lovely!
ReplyDeleteCarol
ReplyDeleteToo bad it won't fit in your booth-it would make a great place to hang things for display. Can you take it apart and use only half of it?
I've never used Craigslist, so no advice there!
Take care!
beautiful! love your stuff Carol!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this.. and if I didn't live about 3000 miles away, I'd take it off your hands!!! Good luck whatever you decide to do... some lucky person is going to treasure it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, oh to live down the road from you:) I am sure it will find a lovling home:)
ReplyDeleteOmgosh I lOVE IT!!!!!! I wish I lived near you so I could buy it from you, It's gorgeous!! I have to try to make one now!
ReplyDeleteHello Carol
ReplyDeleteIt's really lovely. Keep it and walk round it!
suex
My dear Carol, I think its time you explored the world of Etsy! your beautiful things would fly out. They sell handmade and vintage so you would fit in perfectly! I'm sure someone would snap up that screen! I also think those gorgeous rose brooches would go really well too! Have a look and see what you think but it is the biggest handmade site in the world! Hope this helps. oh the hardest part of etsy is the photo's and you have that down to a fine art! xxx
ReplyDeleteCarol, I think this would be nice in front of a sliding glass door. With the screen and a tall plant and maybe a couple of short ones, it would take the boring "same old same old" look of the sliding glass door. This looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a nice headboard for someone's bed. I would certainly try and find a place for it. Split it into and it would make a nice background for displaying your vingettes in your booth.
ReplyDeleteYou do such amazing work. Love it.
Hugs,
Connie, IN/FL
I have no idea where I would put that lovely screen, but I want it anyway! Perfect price point on the lace! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful Carol. It would be great display for your next Fancy Flea!
ReplyDeleteIt's Gorgeous and there are some Great ideas here Carol! My first thought was to put it in front of a Sliding door, but I also like the idea of trying to sell 2 Panels at Orange tree letting the Customer know you have 2 more. Your home is so romantically decorated it would look great if you kept it! Heck put it in front of the living room windows and let the neighbors figure it out!!
ReplyDeleteHuggs, Nancy
thought you might find this article interesting :-)
ReplyDeletesorry this article ... I always do that forget to put in the link ... http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/255698/the_5_best_online_marketplaces_for_selling_handmade_goods.html
ReplyDeletefirst, anything you'd make would be blog worthy, carol:) love ceekay's idea of splitting it up. craigslist is a little scary where i live...
ReplyDeleteit's so gorgeous, and would make such a great back drop for things, you'll have no trouble finding the perfect spot!
Since it came as 4 panels, I'd take it apart and make 2 panels out of it, and then you'd have one for your shop and one to sell.
ReplyDeleteCan't you fold it and put it into your booth? I know it's sell quickly there.
ReplyDeleteCan't you fold it and put it into your booth? I know it's sell quickly there.
ReplyDeleteif you end up having to give it away before you do a curb alert..we have free cycle. here and the person has to come pick it up from you but it has to be free. wish i could pick hit up. can't you put it against a wall in your booth and make it the wall?? shame to not sell it!!!!
ReplyDeleteFunny you should ask that! I just started putting some things on CL because the atique mall has been so sloww lately. In the past week I have sold five things on CL!! Everything goes fast too! People have actually asked if I would be willing to deliver for an additional $25. My experience has been great I had only one person stand me up. But I sold it to someone else. This is Iowa though maybe a bit different then FL. Traci
ReplyDeleteOh my god.. just... WOW O.O That is just the most...wow... how creatively amazing is that? You've created a masterpiece! :D
ReplyDeletehugs,
Now that is just too cute! I need something like this to hide a TV in the dining room for the grandkids to use but I live too far away! I love the ideas that others have listed and have nothing else to offer. Decisions, decisions!!
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteNow you know that I would be madly in love with this screen, did n't you?????
Hugs,
Deb
Carol, This screen is fabulous. So neat that your neighbor gave you the curtains. They were perfect.
ReplyDeleteCould you take one of the panels off to make room for using it.
Have a great week, ginger
I have looked for this type of screen but can never find one. I live too far away. I love how your neighbour came with the curtains at the ideal time.
ReplyDeleteKelly
OMG, it's gorgeous but large is an understatement.
ReplyDeleteI didin't read the other 50 comments before mine but what I'm thinking is that you could fold it to one section showing, put it in your booth. Maybe put the full measurements on the tag???
I hate craigslist!! Having a Yard Sale is one thing but having randome people come inside your home is another.
