I love the look of lace covered lamp shades
I started with a thrift store pole lamp table
Then sprayed it with Heirloom white paint
I actually thought this is all I would have to do since it had a really nice shade, but....No, that would be to easy!
So, I took the fabric off the shade and started covering it with lace.
To get the lace tight I only covered 3 sections at a time using Fabri-Tac glue and clips (You could use clothespins) to hold it while it dried. Lace is very forgiving, you can't see where the seams overlap.
After it dried I trimmed the lace close to the wire of the shade then glued a vintage lace trim around the top and bottom
And I was done
I put the lamp in my booth at Orange Tree and priced it at $95
The shade was not difficult to do, it just had to be done in stages, glue and wait, glue and wait.... I'm good with the glue part just not good with the wait part!
Happy Creating!
Carol

ReplyDeleteI'm like you--I am bad at the waiting part! This turned out beautifully..I'm sure it will sell quick :)
ReplyDeleteYes we always want to see the result before having finished, and I'm often better at thinking than doing (I hope I use the good words, I understand quite much english than i speak-write !) !! Love your so nice lamp !
ReplyDeleteXoxo from PARIS in the spring: yes it is wonderful

OMGoodness, that turned out beautiful! I love the shade!! Enjoy your day, Gail
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative and clever. This looks so beautiful and dedícate lamp
ReplyDeleteI liked it already (post painting), but the lace shade gives it a really romantic and one of a kind look. Love the see through nature of it.
ReplyDeleteTurned out so nicely! The lace shade adds just the right touch. Jean
ReplyDeleteOoooh Ms Rebecca is doing a sewn bits and pieces lamp shade I'm so wanting to try. She takes her lace bits and sews them all together. I love the look. I also love this look. Or maybe even some crochet table cloth cut up, sewn and placed would look good. Maybe tea dyed. Lots of good ideas to go with once you go into fabric, cloth and thread products. Hugs. Tammy
ReplyDeleteLove the lamp shade!!! Well, and the lamp too! I'm with you....not very patient with things that have to dry! chris

That lamp turned out so nice! I love lace and with the lamp stand painted white it turned out great. Another winner for you! Nancy
ReplyDeleteWow! That's pretty.
ReplyDeleteYes to the lace lampshade!!! I know the waiting is the worst but it really makes the lamp unique. Beautifully done dear lady...
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the lampshade (and the lamp)!
ReplyDeleteI have a question. When you glued the lace to the lampshade did you wrap some lace over the edges or did you just glue it to the edge. You did say you trimmed the extra off, so I am assuming you did not wrap any lace. The edges of the lamp look completely covered with lace and smooth, without rough edges once you trimmed the lace. I want to make a lace heart, and I am not certain how one deals with the edges along the wire so that they look nice without adding any trim.
Another question... Tammy from “The Stitching Coop” mentioned that "Ms Rebecca" is piecing lace to make her own lampshade. Can you tell me who Ms Rebecca is, and does she have a website/blog? I am curious to see what she does with the lampshade.
As always, you are one of my favorite bloggers, although I don't post much. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
That is absolutely stunning! I'm going to have a go at one myself and I'm pinning.
ReplyDeleteYou are - above and beyond every thing - a Brave Soul! I wouldn't dare... even with you suggesting that I could.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Amazing Job, Lovely Carol!
I bow to you and your poweress with Lace. There's nothing that goes through your amazing hands that doesn't go from rags to riches in a eye blink. As long it's you doing the blinking, of course.
You make me wish for a magnifier and look for proofs that this isn't - can't - be the same piece.
Thank you so much for sharing your Art and Inspiring us into believing in Fairies.
Love,
Teresa
