I needed a couple signs for my sons vintage themed rehearsal dinner in November. The dinner will be at a little cafe around the corner from my house and since parking is limited at the cafe I needed to direct my guests to the abundant parking by the lake. I actually thought...Pay a professional sign store to make the signs!
But, I just couldn't, not without giving it a try myself
It's not that us "Do it yourself" folks are cheap (Ok, maybe), it's that we know we can turn something from ordinary into unique and fun....Well, basically we can do a better job!
Bless the Graphics Fairy, this was a new graphic that Karen posted of a hand holding a piece of paper
I took the hand, enlarged it, cut it out, then glued it on foam core
Now, I took my garage sale sign (We all have some of these) and painted it a light blue
I then printed out "Parking" and using some old tracing paper
Transferred the outline to the sign and filled it in with paint pens
And hot glued the hand on top
I needed another sign at the cafe to announce that this was a private party
Way back in March I found this sign at the thrift store for $8.00
After a transformation, I used it at my booth when I was a vendor the Fancy Flea
Time to transform it again for the rehearsal dinner
I mod podged sheet music and then printed off the words onto paper and used a heart rubber stamp in the middle
So, there you have it......Park by the lake
And no party crashers allowed
And this is why I love blogging.... Because I think you all "Get it", sure I could have paid someone to make professional signs, but we love doing something different and thinking out of the box, we refuse to settle for the ordinary !
Happy Creating!
Carol

there are no "professionals " who could match what you have done, you are so creative, such a vision you have, I have been having so much trouble with my blog list, people keep disappearing, I know of a couple of others that are having this trouble as well, I keep losing three or four blogs, I have lots of catching up to do, things have been so tense here four the last 5 weeks, all will be calmer after next week.I treasure your friendship, thankyou for the kind words,
ReplyDeleteAs always, you amaze me with your craftiness! Looks awesome!!!

ReplyDeleteThose signs are awesome Carol!~ My sisters wedding was a sure hit. I can't wait to share all the fun little details. Of course, I missed taking a few pictures along the way. Everything went by so fast I forgot to capture a few things. I can't wait to see your son's wedding. I posted a pic on my facebook fan page of the bouquet my Mom made. It was sooooo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh you clever Girl!!!

LuLu~*xoxo
Love it! I'm going to use that sign for my booth! LOL!
ReplyDelete-pamela :)
You, dear Carol, should never pay a professional to do anything because you can always do a better. "professional" job! I love what you did, and I totally agree about the burning need to just figure out a way to do it yourself.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm thinking that I need to start a pin board just for future wedding dreams. It'll freak my daughters out, but I love the "crazy little thing called love" theme. Plus, I saw a great wedding post on Debbiedoos today too.
Kismet? I think so...
I LOVE your signs, Carol...and I'm sure it was even more special to your son and fiancee that you made it for them!
ReplyDeleteClever as always...That's you, Carol!
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Carolynn
You are one of the most creative & talented folks I've had the pleasure of "meeting" around blogland. These are totally perfect for their intended use. Can't wait to see more of the plan.

So adorable!
ReplyDeleteNo Professional charging an arm and a leg can pick a creative mind and do what we want, they all usually have to put their spin on it too. These signs are just fantastic!! Everything you are creating is flowing so well together!!
ReplyDeleteThis whole Wedding is going to be a over the top week end affair!!
