I could have titled this post "Meet my twins".....But, that seemed like a cheap way to get attention, so I will just say
"Look twins"!
How odd to find two little writing desks at a sale.....Oh, I just had to have them
I knew they had potential. I used something called "Gloss off" (Available at any home improvement store) to get the shine off (I hate sanding) then cranked up my electric paint sprayer and primed them with Kilz primer and 2 coats of Heirloom white paint. A little trick is to take the cap of heirloom white spray paint and have it color matched to make a gallon of paint.
Now it was time to give them each a distinctly different personality
This was an "Oops" green paint and the old knobs for both desks were from my stash
For the next desk, I mixed up my own grey paint using warm white and black paint, it almost looks a little blue?
I loved the color so much I took a drawer to Ace Hardware and had them do a color match to make a quart, here's the magic mixing numbers . The base paint is Royal.
This color looks so great with white! I finished both with a protective coating of wipe-on poly by Minwax
These little transformed desks will be going to the Fancy Flea April 28th in Lakeland Florida
I know I should be humble and not say how much I love these, but if I had room I would be splitting up the twins and keeping the grey one for myself!
I'm hosting the family Easter dinner (I will miss Baby Boy, he's in DC) so, I'm off to cook and clean.
Wishing you all a Blessed Easter!!

Wow...what a tranformation! I don't know if I would have been able to see the potential. Beautiful job as always.
Wow Carol, they turned out beautifully. I think I have a pretty good eye but I would have bee pressed to see the swan in those ducklings. You did an amazing job!
Beautiful makeover, I love your twins:-)
Happy Easter! Hugs, Biljana
love how they turned out- what a great find and redo!
The grey desk is perfect for my house. I love what you did with both. You definitely have a gift for making old things look beautiful.
Your make overs are fantastic! Beautiful colors. Thanks for the tips...
You have a wonderful Easter too.
And, a fun filled time getting things ready for the big day.

Carol,
They both look charming! How funny that they had two of them:) Happy Easter my friend!!!
Blessings,
Linda
I could see why you love your twins so much. What a beautiful redo! They are going to go fast!
I Love your twins I will take the green then!!! lol
Well, if you take the grey one I would be most happy to adopt the green one. HOW CUTE are they!!!? I love them. They will fly out of that sale door! xo Diana
Bellissime queste scrivanie, ottimo lavoro.
Brava Carol sei capace di stupirci con un tocco di colore.
Simona
Both desks look absolutely fantastic!
Fantastic transformations Carol! Wishing you a wonderful & blessed Easter weekend :)
Wow! They look great. Love both of your colors. Wish I had the creative mind you do!
Have a wonderful Easter weekend,
Cheryl
Blessed Easter to your family as well...and they are cute desks...I love the grey one myself!!
So cute--wouldn't it be fun to have twins girls and get them each one? Your work is delightful. Have a blessed Easter.♥♫
I like both colors! I believe the reason you found two matching ones may be because they are nightstands not desks.. just a thought. Desks don't have a shelf on the bottom because you can't put your legs under the table. Regardless of what they are I love what you did with them.
Beautiful job, Carol! That is an incredible coincidence to find two of the same desk. Love the colors you chose. I think the only problem is going to be people trying to decide which of the two they want!
These are just adorable. Thanks for posting your "how to". Nice colours.
Hi Carol,
These are fantastic! How come I never find two cute writing desks or two of anything that's cute.
Lucky you. I would have wrestled you down for these! LOL!
You are going to have to bring home your money in a Brinks truck after this sale!
hugs
Sissie
Hi, I wanted to follow you on Pinterest but I couldn't find you there. I found other pins that other people had pinned from your blog but not your page. Would you please link your pinterest to your blog's page?
Thanks, Katharine
Adorable! I would have trouble letting them go too.
Fancy Flea here we come!!!
I'm having a hard time picking which one is my favorite. But.... maybe.... since you want to keep the grey.... OK, I'll pick the green.
~Bliss~
OMG!!!! I love them both. Fabulous transformation. I cant believe they are the same desks. What a great eye you have. AMAZING
They both look wonderful! You find the best ugly things to transform! (I know that sounds weird, but its a compliment!) Excellent job on these, Carol.
Happy Easter to you!
I love them too--they are adorable! Great job on the re-make.
Your twins are adorable. What a difference your makeover made! Gorgeous!
LOVE LOVE LOVE them both!!! I have a thing for the green but theyre BOTH stunning!
Hugs,
I can't believe the difference from beginning to finish. Your twins are precious!
I was shocked! Such a HUGE difference. I am fond of the grey one.
Hi Carol,
I love the twins! The green one works with my home. :) Beautiful transformation.
Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to you too...
Sylvia
Love the grey!!! As usual, a fantastic post : )
The "before" is depressing... but your transformation is amazing. I love the gray one, too! Happy Easter!!!
Maybe you found two, so that you would stumble on that second self mixed grey paint! They both look wonderful, but like you, I think I like the grey one best.
Hope your cooking and cleaning is productive and you have a very blessed Easter Weekend!
Blessings,
Susie
Great job!
I love the desks and I always appreciate your tips. Gloss off....who knew (not me)
Wow! I love the twins...Congratulations ;-) Ps. thanx for the tip of using gloss off. XoXo
You've done it again! I ADORE everything about these cute little desks. Oh my.
Beautiful work Carol! I agree with you~I'd keep the grey one too, although I'm more of a green person myself! Hard to make up my mind, both are beautiful!
Btw, I'm with you....I HATE sanding too.....!
Hello Make-over Queen!
They are awesome! I sure wish I could go the to Flea!!!I hope you will have time to take photos! I think you'll be busy selling all of your treasures!
Bummer about baby boy...
Easter Blessing to you my Friend!
Warmly,
deb
The twins are beautiful, each pretty in their own way. I'm visiting from MMS Furniture Feature Friday.
Superb! You have a great "sense" of color and are very talented. Have a wonderful Easter! (I think you are my favorite blog!)
Oh Carol you have done it again. I almost cried out loud when I saw the little grey/blue desk. I would give it a home in a heartbeat. I think it is a very good thing we live on opposite coasts! My home could not hold all the treasures you create that I would have to acquire. Easter Blessings to you and your family...
WOW OH WOW, you did it again Carol. I cannot wait to get outside and start painting too. Garage sales are going to start soon I hope. It's still a little cold for them right now, but when that sun comes out to play and stay... I'm off.
I say separate the twins.
Happy Easter Miss Polka Dot.
xoxoxo
Hi Carol, Oh these little desks are adorable. I love them and the two different colors give them totally different looks. How awesome to find two. Maybe they were used as night stands somehow.
You know, I love ACE paint too and use it often in my work and home.
Thank you for sharing these beauties. I do not think they will last long.
Wishing you a blessed Easter.
Hugs from Texas, Celestina Marie
Love these desks. As always you have take good into gorgeous!
Happy Easter
Cindy
Hello Carol~hopping in to wish you a wonderful Easter.
At this holiday I'm always flooded with memories of wearing fluffy dresses and petticoats with fluffy hair to match.
One memory stands out...as a young adult when I wasn't able to return home for Easter. My sweet mom sent me an Easter box, which included dyed eggs...I refer to them as "died" Easter eggs. Snail mail produced a box accompanied by a foul odor. I still laugh hysterically when I think about the stink bomb going off when it was opened. Fortunately I was able to rescue the remaining treats from my box.
The twins are beautiful and would fit perfectly in my home.
Getting these small glimpses of spring we've been taunted with has me craving a weather change.
I'm more than ready to welcome a fresh season of color.
Sweet wishes,
Sara
Hi Carol. Love your transformations!! Question, do you run the primer through your sprayer too? If so, what kind do you use?
Everything looks beautiful as always!!! Keep up the great work.
Carol....these are just lovely! Great job!
LuLu~*xoxo
These are so lovely, Carol! Can't wait to see the pictures from the Fany Flea, Happy Easter!!!
Carol I love both! Which is pretty good that you can have two of the same things look just as good as the other! Love the colors and the hardware too!
I LOVE these! Such a nice job and love how you did them each a bit different.
Have a great Easter!
Way to see the potential in those desks!! They are gorgeous!! Great job!!
Jane
Wishing you a blessed Easter, dear friend!!---- Shannon
Oh, my. They sure didn't look like much when you got them, did they? But wow...now they are great! I really like the transformation you did on them. They are so sweet now!
Nancy
These are adorable! If you want the grey one, I'll take the green, Fair?
Great transformation. So pretty!
Your lucky day! I have to say I love the one with green paint as it is so different. I would have grabbed up that green "oops" paint...love it!
I featured your adorable twins on my blog. Have a great weekend!
Your tables are just beautiful! I can't pick a favorite at all. My living room actually has both colors in it as I adore both blue and sage. Love, love, love! ~ Jamie
Carol,
I totally love both but the green one has me head over heels! I think I might grab me some green paint and paint the drawer of my sewing table. It is already painted white and the green would match my craft room walls wonderfully! Thanks so much for the inspiration!!
Hugs,
Deb
