When I went to an estate sale a while back I was lucky enough to pick up a bunch of vintage slips. I put some in my antiques booth and held on to a few to try my hand at altering them.
We have a lot of college kids that shop at Orange Tree Antiques where I have my booth in Orlando. They love shopping the mall for vintage clothes and I have seen a few of them wearing vintage slips with jean jackets.
I started with a vintage slip and thrift store jean jacket
Then cut off the bottom of the slip and jean jacket and added vintage crocheted lace
I made a detachable flower corsage, the tutorial is HERE, I added a couple pieces of lace to shabby it up and used one flower from the trim on the slip bodice in the center of the flower
I have a question that I bet some of you would know. A long time ago I found a bag of the fibers that are hanging from the flower. I have almost used it up and would love to find more.
Does any one know where to find something like this, it is all sorts of different strands, is it used for fiber art or knitting?
I really like this jacket slip combo, do you think there is an age cut off where I can't get by with wearing something like this?
Happy Creating!
Carol

So pretty! I think you could definitely wear this. You're a hip and cool mama! When I was big into scrapbooking, fibers were all the rage. I don't know know if they still are, but I'd check the scrapbook section just in case.
I always wanted to alter a slip and jean jacket. Yours turned out Beautiful!! I have 2 slips in my dresser drawer waiting for so long to be altered I hope I can get to it one day. Take care, Darlene
Oh dear! One of my sons just put his old (but great condition!) jean jacket in the Goodwill bag. Am I uncharitable to wish to go dig it out & alter it? ;)
I have a drawer full of vintage slips that were custom-made for my husband's grandmother. There is a coral-colored one that I should fix up with some tea-stained laces.
OK, Kid, there is no age limit to wearing something like this that you really love. I feel we should wear what speaks to us, and this is so lovely and shows a lot of love went into making it. Life and clothes are to be enjoyed. Go for it!
Seventeen or eighteen years ago we use to sell jackets and vests with lace trim. I wore them then and I'd wear them now. Just bought one about a month ago to redo...not kidding. Not sure about the slip if it's thin...but if it's not then why not? If you have the right attitude you can pull it off! :) And you do!

Nice up-cycle Carol.I did a few of these jackets up last winter. When I had a booth at the Plucky Maidens in Portland, Or. They ladies loved them...but most who wanted them wore size 16-18 and mine were mostly sizes 12-14. (I made them to fit me in case they didnt sell LOL) I did have 2 that were larger and they were gone quickly.
Both pieces turned out gorgeous, Carol! I LOVE them and you certainly should wear them.
Match for "fiber bunde" on Etsy and you'll find a lot of offers in all kind of colors.
Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Julia
Wear it! I would, as long as it is appropriate for the occasion. I think that is adorable. All the women will be jealous!!
Hey! Don't you think you'd need a slip under that dress? lol, you know you can wear it!! Too cute. Guess what I found when I was cleaning out my drawers the other day? Yep-three of those long slips and in the closet were two jean jackets! Short sleeves, and Winnie the Pooh embroidered on one. Teachers had clothes like that, you know? We dressed for the kids! I really won't realize I'm retired until about August 9 when everyone else heads back to school. Then I will still be playing in the garden and planning for next year's spring flowers!♥♫
If you didn't want to wear the slip as a dress, make a camisole, dolled up with the dressed up jean jacket. Use the rest of the slip for more flowers. re-do, re-use, re-love!!

beautiful creation and no I have no idea what that fiber is and I worked in a fabric store, it does look vaguely familiar though, maybe from the upholstery department of a fabric store, not sure, what age is OK for this you ask, I say any age, go for it,
That is very pretty and I think you could wear it. I love denim & lace. And congratulations on your son's graduation!
Oh Carol how divine! Of course you can wear this look!! Find a knitting friend who will have lots of left over bits and pieces of fibers...or etsy is always a possibility. I used a gorgeous multi fiber pink yarn and it would be perfect for you in other colors. http://fezayarns.com/products-page/alp-dazzle/
It is pricey but fabulous and you know the saying, "You get what you pay for!" Blissful Creations Dear...
It just so happens that I brought my jean jacket with me to work today...Oh, I want that beautiful flower on it!! I WILL have one--by tonight, probably. Your tutorial is great--I made the tussie mussie for our granddaughter, like I told you I was going to do--and they turned out beautifully. Can't wait to make one (or two, or three )for myself! You are so creative and give us such great inspiration, Carol. Thank you! The two pieces together are beautiful. And YES, wear them!! The "slip" is no different than many tops that are out today. I saw your picture with your son--you can totally wear it! :) ~Zuni
Hi Carol,
Love your altered slip and jacket. You certainly can wear them together. Gorgeous fabric flower you added. I love jean jackets and wear them all the time when it's cooler here. I just need the slip!!
You may find the fibers in the yarn section at Joann's. I think I have seen something similar there. Maybe mix a few types together.
You will rock that outfit Carol!! Have Fun!
Hugs~
Awesome! Go for it, Carol!
*I've missed you!*
We are never too old to wear the things we love!
Very pretty, Carol! I'd wear that outfit in a minute. Is there a cut-off age? I don't know. I try to gauge how comfortable I feel in something if I'm not sure if it is too young for me. If I feel "funny" wearing it, then I think it's better that I don't!
Carol: love it, you could always change the slip/dress to a camisole, use the extra fabric for more flowers. Re-do, re-new, re-love!!!

I do love the remake jean jacket! I have a jean jacket hanging in my closet just like that and a white V neck tank top with lace on the V neck and bottom that would look perfect under it. What do ya think? Can a 73 year old senior citizen wear something like that!!!! LOL Nancy
Hi Carol,Super makeover on the jean jacket and slip. I Sold most of my old full slips on ebay long ago. At that time young girls were buying them as summer dresses and wearing them with shrugs. Couple of years ago I bought men's wool sports coats at the resale stores and snazzed them up with embroidered flowers, beautiful old buttons, etc. on the lapels and sleeves. They sold quickly. Moms are always allowed to brag! Congratulations on your son's graduation. My youngest has a very stressful job and it was good to see him relaxed some at the beach. :) xoxo
Love both of these beautiful altered pieces! I think you could get away with wearing either one of them. The flower you added to the jacket is gorgeous.
Very pretty Carol and I think it would look great on you.
hugs

Esta criação ficou maravilhosa!
Linda e charmosa!
Abraços!
I believe the fibers you have are meant for scrapbooking. At one time it was popular to add fibers to tags, cards, and scrapbook layouts. I probably still have some from years ago. lol
I love the slip and jacket look! And, no, there is no age limit on wearing it as long as you are comfortable wearing it...as long as you feel confident wearing it. Linda
OMGoodness, How awesome is this. I wish I were young and skinny! Do I get two more wishes?
Happy Summer, Ginger
Beautiful upcycles on the jacket and slip. I agree with everyone to go ahead and wear it! It's funny but when we do our shows, my sis and I have fun wearing our upcycled, one of a kind and vintage creations that we probably wouldn't wear to "work" but love being with "like souls" who get it! Enjoy it!
Betsy
That's a really cool look you have put together!
I decided long ago--wear what I like, not what others do. I do have to try not to embarrass my kids though. This is so cute--you would look adorable in it!
Seriously, sometimes I think you could open a couture boutique as well as your booth. You are the single most creative person I have ever encountered. This is fabulous!!
So pretty! Love the necklace and brooch pin too! :) Have a great weekend! xo Holly
This is just amazing, I love this outfit!! I agree with one of the other commenters, you should open up a clothing boutique. And yes, you could definitely wear this. Great job!
I say wear it till you're 100! you are so beautiful and this is adorable:) LOVE IT!!!!! that jacket will be cute with sooooo much!
Carol, since you are "ageless", you could definitely model this creation. I have a jeans jacket, hmmm, I'll have to mull this over. Such a cute transformation.
Love and you can wear it at any age!!! xoxo
YOu did a beautiful job on both! I love them! t.xoxo
Oh how fun! Will try this too! By the way Good advice on Adult Children! I know your proud ! you deserve to be! He earned that for you as well as himself!
Not you. Age is not a matter that you have to worry about, Dear Carol.
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

At least until you're not out of the house with the a-m-a-z-i-n-g jacket and your pj ;).
I caught some suggestions at Pinterest, but as usual yours go over and beyond. I'm sighing of envy and wonderment - and I'm not even a jeans lover. Amazing Job!
Carol,
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement as I continue on my weight loss journey!! I really appreciate it!!
Love the jean jacket and slip...this is what I will be wearing when I lose all my weight!! HA!! HA!! I thought that would give you a chuckle!!
Next post will have before and current pics...
Hugs,
Debbie
Wow that is stunning! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm past the 'wear a converted slip' age but the jacket is something I'd definitely wear. My girls who are 22 would SO wear both!
Those fibers are used in knitting and crochet, as well as embellishing. Go to a yarn shop and there should be balls of eyelash, railroad track, and I forget the names of all of them. They cost a bit for a ball, but for your use, a ball will last a long time. The problem is deciding which ones you really need without the whole store following you home!
hello!
"no age cut-off!" says the 47-year old who still wears little barrettes from time to time. :)
happiest summer wishes

I suspect you are timeless and would look great in this jacket and slip top. Very feminine.
Love the slip and jacket, so chic now.
You did a fabulous job!

Great job, so cute, and yes do wear it!
This jacket is so darn cute and stylish. My Mom would buy it up in a second! If I didn't get it first lol.
