Painted Signs, No Skill Needed!

I have no decorative painting skills, so making signs is something I generally shy away from....But wait, I think I found a way to paint signs...No skill needed

I found this siding laying on the curb it was from an old house in downtown Orlando .  I stopped my car and loaded up as much as I could.....Wish I had taken more!  I've used it for different projects off and on the past two years and this is the end of it...Sniff, sniff!

When I decorated the Store Window I made a sign to hang on the arbor and it was the first thing that sold.

So, I thought I would make a few more to bring to the Fancy Flea November 2

Some were stenciled....

....And some were made with the "Blender Pen Transfer Method"  You can find that method HERE at Graphics Fairy along with 11 other transfer methods

Now, I have no decorative painting skills, but wanted painted signs.  So, I printed out the words using a font where the letters had open spaces (Academy Engraved LET) on my Mac....

...Reversed the image and applied it with the blender pen

Then I used paint and a small paint brush to fill in the letters

TaDa...A painted sign.....And no decorative painting skills needed!

I price my signs between $12 and $16...Why the difference in price...
It is all based on do I like it or not!

Does anyone else use this very precise form of pricing?

Happy Creating
Carol

I love them and you are such gem for telling us how to do them!!

I love this! Is the blender pen easier to use than the water slide decal you often use?

Love 'em, Carol! I love signs myself. I've tried that pen but never seem to get a real clear image, but you've made me want to try it again. I have a product I got from Sheila at Plum Doodles that I'm going to be trying {similar type of treatment}.

Your signs are wonderful. When I set up with the Artist Market, back in the summer. I also, priced some items as you did here. If they were things that I didn't mind bringing back home to use myself or to use as gifts I just priced them a little bit higher :)

Everyone loves signs! And pricing must be a challenge! You're going to have such fun!

You cracked me up! I have been asking people about how they price and you are the first one I heard admit that, although I think most of us are influenced by it.

I like your blender pen idea. I've been reading about that lately for transfers but haven't bought the pen yet. I used to do it the old fashioned way, tracing the font, transferring the font, painting the font and I must say it got old after so many so I stopped. Now you make me want to try signs again. And yes of course that is the exact way I price! :) Thanks for my laugh of the day.

Fab signs-- will check out the transfer technique. Even if you can hand letter, it's quite time consuming. Thanks for the link!

Hi Carol,
I love your signs. Sometimes I price things based on the pain the item causes me...I know you know what I mean! LOL.

Do you know that I have never done this? I have seen the graphics used time and time again, and every single time I see it, I want to do it. I have yet to do so.

I love your signs, and I grinned at your pricing. That's probably what I would do.

Actually, I would do a royal belly flop in business, and I think I've figured out why: I'm so doggone cheap my own self that I would under price and therefore under value things. That's the dumb part of my blond.

Love your pricing method Lol! Almost as much as I love those signs ... and I love them all!!

Love the signs, I wish I had have as much creativity in my bones as you do!!! I don't think you sleep, haha, you get so much done. As for the pricing method,,absolutely, I priced some handbags that were NOT my favorite at some lower prices, and they sell, and I get rid of, (hard to admit) some merchandise that makes room for the other products that I love.

I just love your signs, Carol! They are all tres magnifique! I'm not good at decorative painting either, you've inspired me to give your methods a try! And you have them priced very reasonably. That to me is the hardest part of creating, determining the prices!!

so now you've got the skill (very happy to use this new word - in fact it was somewhere very deeply hidden in my memory - and it is so so nice. I laughed reading you how you manage for your prices, because I often do the same for my paintings !!

Why, Carol, isn't that how everyone prices their items? Joking aside, I love your signs. They are wonderful. It's true, if I like something and I don't want to part with it, it does get a higher price tag so it doesn't hurt so much when it leaves.

I've been hoarding a couple of old boards I've picked up for signs. Hope to get at least one done soon. I like your technique. Mimi

Your signs are wonderful.

I laughed at the "sniff, sniff" of using the last of your found wood. I have certain supplies that I love, but don't want to use too often since I can't get them again.
