Altered Couture Magazine Published My Altered Jean Jacket, Slip, And Flower Pin

Remember when I did the post on "Altering a vintage slip and jean jacket"

Well....Altered Couture published it in their winter issue!!!  How cool is that!!

They also included my fabric flower tutorial....You can find it HERE

Thank You Altered Couture It was a privilege and honor to be in your fabulous publication

I have to say it is quite a kick to see my name in print....

....And you can see your name in print too, if you want to...Maybe you just need a few tips and tricks on making it happen!

This brings me to a Question.......I was wondering if you would be interested in a post on "How to get published"?   I hesitate to write this because I don't want it to look like I think I'm some great expert.  I'm not an expert, the only reason I would honestly write it, is because so many of you deserve to have your projects published, but maybe you don't know where to start or you need a gentle nudge.

Of course there is no secrets in "The Polka Dot Closet"...I will tell you everything I know from my experiences, including;

What projects are likely to get published?
How to contact magazines
Do magazines pay you?
How to write your article
Photography
Does it have to be a new or original project?
The impact on your business/blog
How to increase your chances of editors "Finding" your project

So, let me know if you are interested and I'll get right on it!

Happy Creating!

Carol

Well, first off- CONGRATULATIONS! You SO deserve to be published, Carol.
Secondly, I think that would be a wonderful "tutorial" about how to get published. Amazing idea for a post and one that not many people would be willing to share. But, then, they are not YOU! xo Diana

So happy to see your pleasure to be featured on this magazine : I hope that it will give you more and more readers ! I love also the way you have to offer to share your experience ! It's a great great quality : it is the first time that I read a bloggger offering to inform like that his readers ! I want to tell you one more thing :) Despite to the quality of your blog (you already know I'm fan) that was this way you had to share your experience as a vendor. Nowhere anybody else say "sell that" it's a good article. In conclusion :) ? you're published because you deserved it, if I judge from here in France, of course you are not paid, magazine think that they give you a free advertising, but for them it is all benefit, because you are free and they sell their magazines ! In French we say "échange de bons procédés" that means exchange of friendly services ! After to people to see... I can see also (huge experience in reading blogs ...) that after being featured in a magazine, many blogs end their life, that means that it was their only aim, and not the pleasure to give and to share...
My dear Carol I hope you could understand what I mean, Language barrier is there, and so many years since I didn't speak English... Sorry the the grammatical mistakes.

xoxo from PARIS (nice sunny day)

Would love to hear everything!!! I love that jacket and that flower pin. When you had it on your dress form with the scarves too. Well it was love at first sight!!

CONGRATULATIONS!! I remember when you were published for the very first time. It was for those paper dolls. Since then, you have been a lean, mean, marketed machine. There's a great reason for that, too. You are one of the most creative people I know. (Really mean that. Whenever I watch that show where they have to buy stuff to redo and sell at flea markets on HGTV, I think how you would rock it.)

I don't do anything publishable but I would still like a post on your insights because you have such a great track record.

Congrats! I love those Somerset magazines.I submitted something once and they kept it for a long time (which was not a problem) and finally just returned it. I KNOW I need to keep submitting. I did have something published in a book from my Etsy shop but they approached me out of the blue. It is tough to lay your things on the line for judgment, but if you don't, it is hard to get seen! It is sort of like waiting at home for "Mr. Perfect" to knock on your door and sweep you off your feet..probably not going to happen..you have to leave the house!

Hi Carol,
Thank you so much for the helpful post. I have been wanting to submit a project but it seemed overwhelming and scarey! You make it sound so fun and doable. You are so thoughtful and kind to help others. And congratulations on your ALL of your publications. You deserve it. You are one talented lady!

Blessings,
Tamara
