Exciting News, One of my Projects is getting Published!!!

I't been an exciting couple days!! I found out one of my projects will be published in the November issue  of ..............  Darn that blogger, it's always messing up, anyway, it will be on news stands the end of October.  Now I have to........... 

Here's the scoop, a friend called me from a garage sale and said there is some cute little chairs here, the lady says they are 100 year old choir chairs.  She wants $10.00.  I said offer her $8.00, she accepted, and I was the proud owner of this chair

I am glad I did not buy a bunch because it was pretty ordinary.  Then I picked up this metal tool box for .50 at an estate sale.

I did the same "Treatment" to both items and it turned out really neat

So, on a whim I photographed them and emailed  it to a magazine.

The email came back from the editor 

"Yes, we would love to publish this" 

 (it also said "You are as sweet as you are talented", but I didn't want you to vomit on your computer!)

Then she continued

"We have an opening for our November issue,

 will that work for you ?"

After I revived myself, I wrote back YES,YES,YES!!!

I now I have to get busy, because she also added that I should incorporate a Christmas theme

So, tomorrow I will be off to my antique store and Jo-Annes to find props.

Magazines start so far ahead, it is hard to think Christmas in April.

Now, I need to incorporate this wood into the photo shoot, I'll get to that in the next post

For now I am just going to see if I can

Homemade Estate Sale Sign....STOP THE CAR!!!

I tell you, there is nothing better than a homemade estate sale sign, YAHOO!

This tells you that the sale is not by an estate sale company, it is by a family, or guardian.  That means one of two things, either it's a big dud because they think they have treasures, and they don't.

Or  

You score big because they have no idea what they have!

$5.00 I'm keeping this for me!  A gold lacy frame .50, you know what I do with these.

And lastly  OHHHH I love linen!

Then, with my heart beating fast, looking in my rearview mirror, I sped away to the grocery store,

which is where I was heading in the first place!

Does this ever happen to you, you're speeding away afraid they will come after you and say they made a mistake and want all of their stuff back!

Making a Polka Dot Suitcase

I love Polka Dots, so why not a polka dot suitcase?

Melissa at the Vintage Attic was my total inspiration.  I saw her post about polka dot transformations and had to give it a try.

She took these thrift store finds 

To these works of art

Aren't these fabulous!!!

I taped the handle to my suitcase

(OOps I started painting, then I remembered to take a picture)

Sprayed it with primer and then Heirloom white

Then I grabbed Melissa's secret tools

And polka dotted away!

I coated it with Minwax wipe on poly acrylic

And put it in my booth at Orange Tree

Melissa you rock!  

So, what else could I polka dot?

Turning a Lamp Into an Urn

I had this lamp for sale in my booth for a long time and it just would not sell.

You see it had cracks all over and through the graphics

Someone gave this to me.  Now, it was not my style anyway, but I appreciate that some people might like it, only I guess they didn't!

I decided to take it apart and see if I could do anything with it.  I had seen a long time ago where someone had made a vase from a lamp

I used putty in the cracks then painted and glazed it and found a finial from my lamp parts box....How lucky was that, it fit!

I went to Graphic Fairy and made a water slide decal 

For the time being I am going to put it on my mantel

So, the next time someone gives you a lamp

And

You think it's ugly

And

It has cracks in it

And

It won't sell

Well, 

Now you know what to do with it!! LOL

Lace Stenciled Night Stand

When I was transforming this little nightstand 

I was thinking French,

Actually French lace

I painted the body heirloom white

Then got out my new pink paint brushes from Ace

Mixed up some French pink (Or what I thought was  French pink) for the drawer

I cut out a piece of lace to cover the drawer and sprayed the lace (Not the drawer) with temporary adhesive. 

Then stood a distance away and  LIGHTLY sprayed over the lace with black paint

If you stand to close or spray to heavy you will have a muddy mess!

Pull the lace off immediately 

I did a little black glaze down each side of the stand in the grooves

You could use lace as a stencil for all kinds of projects

Picture frames or mats, glass, mirrors, vases 

and in any color combination

Just throwing the idea out there, I know your creative minds are working!
