Altering a Vintage Glove box

Occasionally I am lucky enough to find a vintage glove box of course I can never leave well enough alone!

I always have to do  a little work on it.  So often the inside has seen it's age.

I laid my favorite fabric on the copier and pressed copy, that gave me a sheet of beautiful floral paper

I then chose a graphic from Graphics Fairy and reloaded my now floral paper into the printer and printed the graphics onto my floral paper

I Mod Podged the paper onto the box and added a shabby flower made from the matching fabric

And there you have it

Why is it when we start taking pictures the cats come buzzing around like bees......Look a tail hanging into the top of the picture.

Martin was sitting on the back of the chair, I cropped his tail out of the other pictures

Here is the whole behind the scenes look, Billie is up on the fireplace, she never goes there unless I'm taking pictures.  I was taking pictures on the chair because it was the best light in front of the windows.

OK, so where was I.....Oh, I found some vintage gloves and did a little dressing up of them also.

I thought they would look cute in the box when I put it in my booth at Orange Tree

I also found this lime green box and added a little bling.  I am not sure what this box was used for?

If you were really observant you noticed this box was filled with something back on the picture with the cats.....Well stay tuned that is my next post.

Hope this helped give you a couple ideas

Hi Carol,
I have a couple of the glove boxes to do something like you just showed. I also have the hanky boxes. I think I have too many "projects" to do...Yours is so pretty! I DID notice a little something in the box...of course your kitty's want to be in the photos and see what's going on!
Warmly,
deb

Carol -

Love it! I have piles of these Vintage Glove and Hosiery boxes and it hadn't occurred to me about altering some!

They aren't selling like hotcakes here, not sure why - I just LOVE them, esp the ones with the dividers. I have them in different shades of pink, blue, and one with prints on the quilted satin.

FAB posting! Your glove box turned out so nice - I LOVE the green one! :)

How very clever of you to photocopy your fabric to make paper and then print a graphic on it. The glove box is now super gorgeous. I happen to have a vintage glove box from my Grandmother's Aunt and I shall never get rid of it. I also have another box of hers that is section shaped exactly like your green one. I keep brooches and jewelry in mine. I did notice the little parcels and will be happy to see what you have made. Your items are always so romantic and feminine and lovely. Marvelous May to you...

I love the glove box. My mom had a few of those and sadly, she got rid of them at some point before I could get my hands on them! I love how you repurpse things and make them better than new!

You are so creative! I would never think to copy fabric.
You would think I had dog treats in my camera bag. Every time I get it Skipper comes running.
Your cats are so beautiful and photogenic.

Those a beautiful! Love the idea of copying fabric onto paper, too.

I have that same problem with the cats- yesterday I needed to shoot a series of steps in doing geranium cuttings, and *2* of the cats had to get in on it.

I'm laughing! I got married in 1980 and wore what is known today as "Vintage Gloves"!! Love it! I should dig them up....

clever on the green box lining it with pretties. I have two similar boxes one in cream and one in a peach color. I do believe they are some sort of jewelry holder. I keep my button rings I make and wear in one and the other I use for my hair accessories (pins, clips etc..)

I love your vintage creations and the photos of your furry family members are too cute! One of mine loves the back of the sofa too, but they would never go on the mantle without breaking something. LoL

What a beautiful post, Carol!! I love your work...it's so beautiful and feminine. Thank you for the tip on photocopying fabric...I'm on it! I believe the divided box might have been used for nylons, back before we had pantyhose. I wish we found items like these in our antique stores...unfortunately such things are pretty scarce as most people who move to AZ clean out and clear out before moving out! Oh well, I'll keep my eye out for these lovely boxes. Thank you also for visiting me!

Gorgeous! The boxes AND your cats! Mine do the same thing. A reporter came to interview my oldest daughter when she was in 5th grade (she's now 22), and when we watched it on TV we noticed our cat kept walking in and out of the shot behind her. Gotta love 'em!

I have one of those boxes. Thanks for sharing. I may just try to fix it up that way.

I have to say I absolutely love your blog posts. You are so generous to share your creative secrets with us, and those cats are cracking me up! I love them both to death. I wish I could photograph my cats like that without them running away, and the cat on the mantel! LOL... I can't even imagine. I'd be frightened of broken treasures. What a treasure you are!! Thank you for the time you take to share with us. God bless you!! <3
