My First Auction

I just attended my very first auction. I loved it, and got some great things to put in my booth!

The weekend before I left to see my Baby Boy in DC (We had so much fun, why do they have to grow up and move away!)
I went with a friend to my first auction, I was so nervous!

Twice I did just like in the movies where I unintentionally placed a bid, one time I was fanning myself and the other time I was scratching my nose!  Thankfully the bid went higher and I didn't have to buy anything I didn't want!

Here's my haul......

...2 fabulous little stools waiting for "Makeover magic"

A whole box of vintage cobbler shoe forms.   I was the only one that bid on these, I guess know one knows what DIYers can do with these!

Old books to alter, a couple are French and I will use those in a decoupage project

A box of assorted jars and glassware, they sometimes sell by the box, so you end up with a little of this and a little of that

An assortment of vintage linen

I love this chippy old scale complete with weights

My favorite purchase of the day was this old rubber stamp printing set, circa 1940's.  I might sell it, but I am looking forward to playing with it first!

I love the excitement of an auction and learned so much.  It took me awhile to figure it all out.  When the bid is $10 and the auctioneer says "Do I hear $15"  I didn't have to go to $15 I could bid $11.  I bet that's auction 101!!!

And if you want something, don't wait, get in and bid or it will be gone before you can blink an eye!

This was my first auction and I am soooo hooked, I think this is the first of many!

Happy Creating!
Carol

great haul, Carol...lucky you! I haven't been to an auction in a long time and I look forward to hitting a few up in the Fall. I'm sure you got the best stuff there...vintage linens (my love), that scale with just the right amount of chippy paint!, and the old stamp kit...so cool! Of course, if you're selling the last two items, I'd be interested in knowing your price before you raise them to your shop prices. Feel free to email me. denise

Oh Carol how exciting, love that scale and the stamp kit. I found bunches of old shoe forms the other day at a thrift store, they are just $.75 a piece, is that a good or a high price?, I only bought 2 and really don't know what to do with them, probably I could get my hands on the rest, I just didn't know what to do with them and didn't buy more.
Have a wonderful week.

Oh how fun Aunt Carol....I could imagine getting hooked myself as I LOVE the bidding process...though I tend to go higher on something just for the sake of winning....Well at least that's what I sometimes finding myself doing on Ebay.... : ) I LOVE all your Winnings the Books are great and I like the one that says Bedelia, those shoe forms are great and I can't wait to see what you do with them...And that stamp collection how fun is that...But I think the Scale has to be my favorite of all..
Thank you so much for your great concern due to my computer problems...I did email you through you store the other day...I wasn't able to do it through the contact button.. It took me to a strange page...Not on your end on mine...Saying I had Welcome to Mail and then It wanted me to fill out all kinds of things...Still trying to figure that one out... : ) I did just last night figure out how to insert images and snip pictures off of the web.... : ) Just when I was ready to throw in the towel...You might have seen my MacBook in that auction had I not found out how to do that... : ) Well I am off to post.. Hugs to you and Lots of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Carol, glad you enjoyed your visit with your son. Time does seem to fly by! I've never been to an auction either but I think it sounds like fun. You came away with some things that I know you will turn into something fantastic. Will be watching to see what you do with them.-------Shannon

You got some great stuff! Auctions are so much fun, except I hate it when it's something you really want and you get into a bidding war with someone.

OMG Carol, I can see why you had so much fun. You really got some amazing stuff there!
I've been to a few auctions and have never seen the unique purchases you made at yours.
Have fun figuring out what you'll do with it all!

Hi Carol,
Auctions can be very addicting! I'm going to one tomorrow night and haven't been for at least two weeks. I'm having auction withdrawl!
Seriously, you will find yourself wanting to go more and more.
I love the loot you picked up. Can't wait to see how you use some of it.

Hi Carol, I am an old veteran at auctions.. having a shop for so many years it was a necessity. Take a look at Auctionzip.com and see if there are any on-line estate sales and auctions in your area. You got quite a haul and some really great things.
xo,
Sherry

OMGoodness Carol! I'm afraid to start, I don't need another thing to get hooked on. But you did get some good stuff.
Sometimes I wish I had a boy because I love seeing boys love their Mommy's..

Glad you had fun at your first auction. I've been going to auctions for years. They can be a lot of fun if you don't catch "auction fever" and bid like crazy. You got some great stuff, and exercised self control. Nicely done.

Now that you've experienced it Carol you won't be able to get enough! Auctions are addicting and so much fun. THe hardest part is the waiting. You definitely have to be patient. Your scored big time. Love all of those finds - especially the stamp set. Great job!

Those cobbler's forms are my personal favorite. They have The Polka Dot Closet written all over them!

I haven't been to an auction since I was a little girl. My parents used to love them, and they let us come one time. (Once... that tells you how we probably behaved. LOL)

You scored big time Miss Carol! Oh my gosh! Love it all. I try and stay away from auctions because I ALWAYS over spend. :( :( :(

Nooo Noooo Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Hi Carol,
I went to an auction once and it was just too stressful for me...Every time the item I wanted came up I'd stressed because other's were outbidding me...So hard not to show how desperately you want something...Hee, hee, hee. Anyway, sounds like your first auction was a success. You got a lot of awesome goodies.

Hugs and Kisses,
♥Ana

Carol, these are great treasures! I just saw my first cobbler shoe forms yesterday. So I had to giggle when I saw your picture... :)
Those are awesome!
And I'm anxious to see the little stools in a new Carol-Look!

It's a shame to cut those lovely old books up! But I'm sure you will make something beautiful out of them for sure!

I like your linen cabinet. Do you ever use ld mini lights instead of the large picture painting lights? they would fit flush to the ceiling of the cabinet and when you open the door you do not see the large lighting.
