Wedding Shower Gift

I just got back from my future DIL's wedding shower.  Mom and I drove down to Clearwater from Orlando, spent the night, and then enjoyed a fabulous shower yesterday hosted by the DIL's Sister and Mom.

I will share tons of shower pictures with you later this week.

It was a travel themed shower. The very creative Mother of the bride made these adorable travel themed invites

Now, I know this was not your typical wedding shower gift like towels or sheets, but it was the perfect gift for my son and his fiance

It started with a rusty old tool box I sanded, painted, and then added water slide decal travel stickers to go with the shower travel theme.  You see, these "Kids" love antiques, junking, estate sales, and refinishing furniture. They sold their refinished wares at their first show 2 months ago....Yep, their hooked.....The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!  So, I knew they would love some supplies to feed their habit

The future DIL has talked about Annie Sloan paint, but it's a little pricey, and she has not been able to bring herself to purchase any....So..

I included some, along with the wax

I finished the inside of the tool box with sheet music and a saying by Dr Suess

And a note from Mom (Me)

I am so thrilled that these "Kids" love junking and DIY projects, not just because I love it (OK, that doesn't hurt) but, because I think when a couple has a shared interest it will bring such joy to their marriage and be the (Hot) glue that binds them

Since my DIL has been living with me (Her and my son live in DC, where she works for the Senate, but she is staying with me for four month while working on the Florida Senator's re-election campaign) we have had tons of fun going to estate sales and thrift stores.

I am so proud of her, not just because she's beautiful, smart, and accomplished.  It's because my heart grew 10 times larger the day we were in a shed at an estate sale, and she was digging through rat poop looking for a buried estate sale treasure.....Yep, couldn't be prouder if I'd of birthed her myself!

Stay tuned for more shower pictures later in the week.........

Happy Creating!
Carol

It sounds like it was a lovely shower, Carol! I love your gift to them! It was very well thought out and I'm sure they will get lots of use out of all you included. I'll bet she was thrilled to see the can of chalk paint.

I waved at you as you went by, Carol. That is the most fantastic gift the young couple could possibly get. They'll remember it long after many others are gone. Waiting to see more shower photos and then the wedding! I've been MOG and MOB and have to admit that MOG is less stressful and more fun.

How wonderful that she shares your same interests and your son too!

I wonder if he'd seen her rifling through dust and mouse dirt at an estate sale...if he'd have fallen for her so quickly?! LOL...

love the gift you put together for them, sounds and looks perfect.

Wow! What a *perfect gift for the future bride and groom!! You did a beautiful job on the tool box, and from what I can see of the mounds of crafting supplies included, you made some excellent choices, given their shared interests and the theme of the shower!

Um... if I divorce my husband and find another man, and we decide to get married, will you adopt him so that you can be my mother-in-law and give us the same amazing shower gift, too?!?

xoxo

Now if the weather ever turns cooler, and I venture out to the garage, I'll be on the look out for a tool box to "work on". Much cuter than the plastic one I've got now. Brilliant gift!! But, rat poop?? Oh dear. Maybe it was just mice droppings! I think they'd be smaller and less dangerous!♥♫

Love the toolbox! Not to rain on your happy time, but all of us junkers need to remember that mice poop can contain the hanta virus and there is no cure for hanta virus pneumonia. So, hold your breath if you see that poop!
