I'm Officially A Window Dresser.....Dressing The Antique Store Window

My stint as a window dresser

I got the window at Orange Tree Antiques dressed today and it went so quick!  It only took me about 20 minutes.  I did a trial run and set it all up in my living room, so I knew exactly how I wanted it to look.

OH MY GOSH...Has anyone ever tried to photograph a store window?  It was so difficult, I had to go back at night because the glare was so bad during the day

Having a Shabby French window display is unique for Orange Tree Antiques.  I don't know if I've ever told you that I am the ONLY shabby vendor in the mall.

The mall has has been open for 17 successful years.  This is due in part to the fact that the owner does not allow multiple vendors of the same venue.  So, there is only one book vendor, one vintage clothes vendor, one shabby vendor (ME), etc.  This means there is something for everyone because of the diverse array of products.

Next month Orange Tree Antiques is doubling in size.  They have leased the space next door and they are breaking through the wall.

I'm in the store window for a 6 week rotation, then it will be another vendors turn.  I'll share the Before and After pictures of my window projects in my next post.

Now, I don't think it's super duper great but, I think it looks OK for a newbie window dresser.......And having this much fun...Priceless!

Happy Creating
Carol

Great job Carol! Do you get extra credit for doing it? I have always thought window dressing would be fun! ♥

You did a great job, Carol! I love all the pieces you put in the window. Does doing the window display boost sales for the vendor who does the display {during that time period}?

Why would the owner want for more than one - OF THE BEST! - of each?!?!
Seems good business manner to me...

I always think that window dressing is something that happens throughout the night and done by Elfs and Fairies. The entire concept elludes me... but I knew you could do this so amazing!!!
Turned out wonderful, as usual. It's one of those Store Windows that I take more time enjoying than buying the items - which are craved and wished upon for so long that I just want to enter and have it ahahahah. But such a store Window is meant to be savoured.

Well done!!! Makes one want to live in it and that's the point right?!

Loving it,
Teresa

Organizing, planning and rehearsing all paid off for you!! Looks great. I bet you will need to replace sold items on a regular basis in your six weeks. I am planning to drive down to see it. Wow! The store is growing! I will need to allow all day instead of half a day when I come.

Carol, you did a great job! It looks fabulous.

It turned out beautiful and no one would guess its your first time out! I'm looking forward to the project pictures, including those white flowers.
I am intrigued about how the mall owner limits it. A well curated mall is always a bonus (no stacks of tablets and tube socks, thank you very much!) but I am surprised she can find enough vendors that specialize. For instance, if there is a vendor that specializes in furniture, does it mean they can't bring in painted furniture because it would be competing with your furniture?

I think its beautiful.! I wish I could be there in person,

Carol, I think your window looks fantastic. Love the hat box and I read the post with the arbor. It looks great in the window and I really like the hangers. I should try to do some of those. My daughter will be down in Oct. maybe we can do those then.

What a beautiful window display. It's just as good if not better than the Anthro. windows! you'll be a hard act to follow.

What fun! You did a great job for your first time. I think it's a great idea for the shop owner to allow vendors to show their wares in the shop windows like this. And I've never been in a shop where there is only one vendor per certain venue. Interesting. Keeps the competition down though! ;)

I love the shabby white display with bright accents of black. Very eye-catching! I hope the mall does booming business during your tenure in the window.

Well, just as your little booth stands out among the throng, this window does too. It would definitely draw me in if I were walking by.

I think I need to head back in that direction to roam about the double sized mall.

(And they added a whole new section to DW since I was there last, too. Two birds with one stone if I could swing it!)

Your window turned out fabulous! I am fascinated by those white flowers.

I am in an antique mall, as well and like you, I am the only shabby vendor.

It looks great! The only thing I would say for next time is to maybe add some more tall things like the arbor because they really separate what is in the window from what is behind it in the store. All of your items on the arbor really "pop" since you are only seeing your items and not other booths. I really like the whole set up though, it looks rad!!! Seriously nice job!

Carol this is absolutely DREAMY! You should be very proud of your window dressing expertise. I hope you are able to calculate how much additional sales you get because of your window display. Smart owners not to duplicate vendor's merchandise. Priceless indeed dear!

Hi Carol, your window display is lovely. That had to be so much fun! I remember back in the 70's when a dear friend of mine got a job doing the windows in a dress shop downtown . . . I was happy for her . . . but jealous at the same time. I know jealousy is a bad thing, but sometimes it just pops up. When the store ex-spans, you'll probably have even more people walking through, get ready for a huge holiday of sales. Your things are so beautiful at you'll be selling and replacing like mad.
Have a lovely weekend,
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

What a beautiful job, Carol! I love the trellis and the giant flowers really grab your attention. It sounds like the Orange Tree people know how to run their business and I hope they do well with the expansion.

I think you did a fabulous job! It would certainly entice me to come in to browse and shop! And that's what it's all about - a teaser to get people's interest. You had different levels of height and texture. As long as you think of it as a 3-dimensional canvas, you can't go wrong!

Now a tip about those reflections... If you have a digital camera that can take filters, please get a polarizing filter. This kind of filter rotates and you select how much or how little polarization effect you want. It will cut down those reflections dramatically. The only downside is that it eats up more light, so it will require a shallower depth of field and/or slower speed. If you are using a point and shoot camera, just take your polarizing sunglasses off your face and put an eyepiece over the camera lens.

Carol, I agree with all the posts above, your display is gorgeous! I haven't been in an antique mall where we've had the opportunity to dress a window. I know that is hard work but also fun.
I wish I had written my blog post on vignettes after your post because I would most definitely have included this vignette in my post.
Great job as always.
