The Fancy Flea...Other Vendors

Here's a few of the other vendors at the Fancy Flea.

It quit raining the last couple hours and by then most of the shoppers that braved the downpours had left but, it gave me an opportunity to get out and meet some vendors and snap some pictures.

Isn't this deer head a hoot, hanging out of someones cart

I love these totes made from vintage sewing patterns

This great gum ball machine, deer head, and pumpkins were in the booth of My Three C's and East Coast Vintage Decor...These lovely ladies are located in the Wildwood Antique Mall in Melbourne, Florida

And that wraps up the November 2013 Fancy Flea!

The Fancy Flea .......After The Rain

The Fancy Flea was pretty much a wash out, but it did quit raining the last couple hours and we were able to do a little set up

After the rain.....

......We were able to take the plastic off everything and drag some of our things out of the tent, but so many things never even got out of the boxes

Of Course Barr Display my partner and I had plans for cute lace tablecloths and darling displays.....But we were too busy trying to keep things dry.

I sold a ton of flower pins, lace, 17 of the shabby lace scarves and 12 of the lace bottom jean jackets.  Honestly, I was pleased to sell anything under the circumstances.

I never even took my signs out of the box

But, it's Ok because everything that didn't sell went into my booth at Orange Tree antiques today

I'll finish by showing you this mannequin that was supposed to be our traffic stopper.......Our Christmas mannequin that barely got out from under plastic

This is sweet Megan a customer service rep from Barr Display.  She came to my house one night after work and we made a quick trip to Hobby Lobby with a loose vision of what we wanted.   We picked up something called Deco Mesh, a bag of bright Christmas bulbs, ribbon, a flower, some pink trim, self stick gems, gold paint and then we got busy.

By 9 pm we had finished "Christmas lady".  We were pretty darn pleased with ourselves.

Even though she barely made an appearance at the Fancy Flea, "Christmas Lady" will be front and center in Barr Displays Orlando showroom for the holidays.

I'll share with you other vendor booths on my next post.

Until then.........Happy Creating!

The Fancy Flea Rain Event!

You know that rain that slowly made it's way across the nation.....Well, it hit Plant City Florida at 8:30 am yesterday a half hour before the 9am opening of the Fancy Flea.  I was soaked and my hair was soaked, but I'm smiling because....Well, what are you going to do?

All day rain in Florida is very rare and seldom in November, until yesterday.   I know from growing up in Minnesota that if  we had a big snow storm people didn't go out.  Well, here in Florida people don't go out in the rain, especially an all day rain, and certainly not to an outdoor event in a dirt field.  It rained and rained and then it rained some more

There was 400 vendors all set up for the big day.....And all covered up with plastic.  When the gates opened...Well, lets just say there was no big crowd rush

The Flea has outgrown the streets of Lakeland Florida and for the first time was held at the fair grounds

The field turned to mud...Think Woodstock 1969.

Cars were stuck and had to be towed out, people were slipping and falling covered in mud, some vendors were in dips in the field and standing in 3 inches of water and the fire ants had a hey day biting every foot and leg in site.

Oh, and the police were called with lights flashing as a physical altercation erupted between two vendors.  One vendor pushed the top of his tent up to get the water off and that caused the water to pour onto a neighboring vendors table.

Only a couple food vendors showed up and I'm guessing the porta potty emptying trucks couldn't make it to some of the porta pottys because of the mud.... So they filled up........Are you laughing yet!

We had everything smashed inside our tent with with plastic all around the outside

But, it wasn't a total loss, we made sales and the rain mostly quit the last couple hours so we were able to get some of "Our" merchandise out... Remember I partnered with Barr Display!  Bless their hearts, what troopers!   Oh goodness, they worked so hard and brought so much merchandise that we could not even get out of the boxes.  If you planned on purchasing from Barr and understandably you didn't make it to the Flea you can always purchase from their online catalog HERE, shop in their large Orlando show room, or give sweet Megan, their customer service rep that was with me at the Fancy Flea a call 800-222-2702

If you have not entered the giveaway for this full size vintage look dress form,
This drawing has ended

you can enter HERE.....The drawing will be on Tuesday.  Goodness, thank you so much to all of you that have already entered...I am blown away by the response!

Yes, I know people were disappointed but, putting things in perspective, this was not a disaster, not even close to what I would classify as a disaster.  There is nothing you can do about the rain and I met so many wonderful customers, blog, and Facebook friends.

The rain  quit the last couple hours so I will show you later this week a glimpse of our tent kind of set up.  I'll let you know what sold and give you a look at some of the other vendors.

I'm happy to report that today the weather is gorgeous and sunny with a notable drop in humidity and clear blue sky!

Yep, this is the day the Lord has made!  Yesterday......I'm guessing there might have been just a slight grin on his face!

No Sew Shabby Holiday Tote Bags

I made three easy, no sew totes.  Since the Fancy Flea is November 2, I know shoppers will have Christmas on their minds

I picked up these canvas totes at Hobby Lobby, I was surprised at their large selection of sizes

The Poinsettias were a lucky estate sale find.   They are hand sewn and oh my......What perfect Christmas colors!

I pulled out some great vintage crochet trim.  I just love this one, shabby, slightly stained, and oh so perfect.  I can't imagine how long it takes and the skill required to crochet this!

I sewed on the trim, but it could easily be added with fabric glue, I like to use Fabri-Tac

And glued on the poinsettia

These were done the same way I did my French Market Bags

I only made three, but time permitting I will make more before the Fancy Flea.

I'm going to price them at $22...Because I think they are adorable and unique.  I'll be making a couple for Christmas gifts for girlfriends.

Have a great week!
