More Paper Towel Holder Hat Stands

I'm continually making hat stands for my booth at Orange Tree, I thought I would share my latest batch

These old paper towel holders are pretty easy to find at thrift stores and I'm sure they are thrilled to be given a new life all dolled up!

I did a full tutorial on making them HERE  The cliff notes are to take a paper towel holder and glue a half styrofoam ball on the top

It's so fun to pick paint colors

Then have fun choosing fabrics and do dads to dress them up

Of course this is my favorite because it's pink

These will go in my booth at Orange Tree, I price them at $25 and they've been a good seller......Just saying for all my friends that have antiques booths and online stores.

Plus....They are soooo fun to make!!

Making a hat stand out of a paper towel holder

Here's an easy, inexpensive, way to make a  hat stand

In April I'm doing my first show the "Fancy Flea" in Orlando and I have a bunch of hats I plan on fancying up to sell

 I was trying to think of an attractive way to display them.  Then, while walking through the thrift store I spotted a wooden paper towel holder...Eureka...Hat Stand! 

I unscrewed the extra peg, filled the hole with wood putty, and painted the stand.  I bought a 5" styrofoam ball from the craft store (They come in half balls, but they cost the same as a whole ball) and cut it in half.  I scooped out a little styrofoam so it would fit snugly on top and pinned the fabric on.

I attached the styrofoam on the stand with E-6000 and hot glue then added a little vintage lace

The flowers are off nick nacks, the tutorial is HERE.  I pick the nick nacks up cheap at thrift stores when some of the flowers are cracked or chipped, but still some good flowers left. I chip them off and attach them with E-6000 glue.

I know not everyone is a shabby lover, so here is another version.  I covered this one with vintage sheet music

Then Stamped the fabric and added vintage trim

Now I have an attractive way to display my hats!

I'm keeping my eyes open for more paper towel holders that are longing to be made into a  hat stand!

How To Make a Hat Stand

This is a fun and easy project!  

Turning a styrofoam head into a hat stand

I started with a lamp base and a Styrofoam head used in a store for hat displays or wig holders

I got  the styrofoam head from Barr Display, they cost $12.00, this is the same place I got my dress form

I Covered the head with tissue paper from 7 Gypsies

I cut the tissue paper into squares and put the Mod Podge onto the head first and then laid the tissue on.  If you try to put the tissue down and the Mod Podge over it the tissue paper will tear 

I used some lace trim off an old lamp, ribbon and fan folded sheet music 

That I hot glued around the bottom

I topped her off with a matching fascinator

She will be great for displaying hats in my booth.  I would love to cover one with a flowered tissue paper, or even pretty flowered napkins...stay tuned!

My Mom thinks she looks gruesome, OK, next time I will cover her in floral paper LOL!  I'm just throwing out the idea not the paper
