Vintage Suitcases

It seems there is not a suitcase in sight and then suddenly I have more suitcases than I know what to do with!  

Oops they are piling up!

The Polka dot and travel sticker ones have already sold in my booth.......Next up

Some pink paint and water slide decals with graphics from Graphics Fairy......

....Next 

I love these round suitcases, more paint and decals.  Taping over the handles is necessary, because the paint will get sticky and never dry on these rubber handles.  Then I tape the rest of the hardware and spray a coat of primer followed by one or 2 coats of spray paint

I finish with two coats of wipe on poly acrylic to make them durable and scratch resistant

I price them between $25-$32,I always have a couple in my booth.

These two cuties I made for the "Fancy Flea" in April in Lakeland Florida

I am in Fancy Flea high gear preparations!! I am having trouble keeping merchandise in the antiques booth and refinishing product for the Flea...Oh, what a great problem to have! 

They will be great for transporting and displaying merchandise and of course they will be for sale!

Using Vintage Luggage tags

I was looking in Google images for vintage luggage tags
and could never find them

I couldn't find them, because I didn't have the magic words,

Vintage luggage Stickers..... stickers, I never thought to use the word stickers!

I found this wonderful vintage train case at a thrift store

It says Luce established 1887 the material looks like leather and I'm sure the handle is.

The travel stickers on Goggle images are free or very inexpensive


I aged the stickers a little with my favorite distressing tool
  Walnut ink

Then printed off a map from Graphics Fairy and Mod Podged it in the spot originally meant for the mirror

I am not a paper crafter.....Obviously......But, I wanted you to see the possibilities.

I think these vintage luggage stickers would be so cute on tags, scrap booking, and cards.

Vintage WallPaper Covered Suitcase

This little suitcase just makes me want to take a trip

I found this little train case at a thrift store

Then I went to our favorite place the

 Graphics Fairy, I don't know how I would do projects without Karen!

There is a whole section on vintage wallpapers

I picked this one

I think using real wall paper would be difficult because it is so thick and all of the corners involved in covering the suitcase

I printed this out on plain typing paper

And gathered my supplies

Then Mod Podged the paper on and sprayed a little Walnut ink to age it.

I had to make a few cuts of paper around the handle but, I think it looks fine

I added the polka dot ribbon for two reasons:

I like polka dots....Hum guess why?

And I needed to cover the edges of the suitcase, I had messy edges, I hate messy!

I am going to put this in my booth at Orange Tree and price it at $38.00

I think this would be cute with Word graphics printed on the paper, or sheet music.

I know you'll figure out something fabulous, I'm just the idea thrower.

Making a Polka Dot Suitcase

I love Polka Dots, so why not a polka dot suitcase?

Melissa at the Vintage Attic was my total inspiration.  I saw her post about polka dot transformations and had to give it a try.

She took these thrift store finds 

To these works of art

Aren't these fabulous!!!

I taped the handle to my suitcase

(OOps I started painting, then I remembered to take a picture)

Sprayed it with primer and then Heirloom white

Then I grabbed Melissa's secret tools

And polka dotted away!

I coated it with Minwax wipe on poly acrylic

And put it in my booth at Orange Tree

Melissa you rock!  

So, what else could I polka dot?
