Fancy Push Pins, Candle Holders and a Bulletin Board, Transformation

A Potpourri of Transformations Destined for my Booth at Orange Tree Antiques. 

I loved how this bulletin board turned out

I knew with a little lovin it would be perfect

I included a couple of shabby push pins I found at the dollar store and painted.

Then shabbied them up

When I sell bulletin boards it's a nice touch to add some push pins.

Sometimes it is just that little extra touch that will get you the sale.

I have talked a lot about adding crystals and just wanted to give you one more idea.

This is a candle holder with just the tear drop crystals

When I find tall candle holders I like to add the tear drop crystals at the end of a crystal chain.

The crystal chain adds a dramatic effect, I am putting this in my booth for $19.00

I just have to show you this pink swan I found

I think it is a Lefton and from the 50's

I couldn't figure out if it was totally cheesy or if it was adorable, but I just had to have it!

The best part was that I didn't have to sand it, paint it, or hang crystals from it, all it needed was a bath!

Romantic Tablecloth Covered Stool

I was searching for just the right fabric to cover this stool and then I spotted an antique table cloth I had. I did not put the table cloth for sale because some of the lace had been repaired and it had a few minor pin holes in it, Eureka!  It was perfect for covering the stool!

The center of the table cloth was a perfect fit for the top of the stool.

I sewed down from each corner to make it slightly fitted.

Each corner hung down a little to far so when I sewed each corner seam, I had these little pieces left from the bottom of each corner.

I sewed these together and made a fluffy thing a ma jig which I put a vintage pin on and added to the front of the stool.

I put a pin on the back of the whole thingy in case someone would like to remove it.

So many of the vintage table cloths have center square patterns perfect for covering a stool or chair cushion.  This would be a perfect use for your not quite "Perfect" linen.

Yep, I was feeling pretty cleaver when I finished this.

I put it in my booth at Orange Tree for $32, I usually price my stools between $15-$28, I can always lower the price, but I really liked this.  Plus the table that won't sell really needs some company!

Transferring Graphics onto Furniture

I Had some questions about how I transferred the French graphics onto my ugly blue box

Thank you for your suggestions on where I went wrong.  You were all absolutely right!  It was the legs that were wrong.  It needed either little legs or no legs at all.  A few of you like myself, just don't like blue.  If it does not sell I think the least work and expense is to just take the legs off, people love old wood boxes.  

Next time I will ask you first!

OK, how did I do the graphics

I went to Graphic Fairies and printed off the graphics. 

This is not the same one, just an example

Then you can use carbon paper or do the poor mans carbon.  Turn your graphics over and lay your pencil side ways and lightly pencil over the graphics, first one direction and then the other.

Now turn the paper back over, tape it down, and outline the letters from the right side of the paper.

Be sure you have given your wood a light sanding so it is nice and smooth.  

This piece was not sanded

Now, if you have a steady hand, have at it, paint away......Me, I like my coffee.  I use paint pens.

Fabulous!  They have a nice fine point, you can use it to outline or you can paint the middle and outline with the pens,

Let it dry and give it a light sanding

And

You too can have an ugly blue box!

Storage Box Redo Gone Bad!!

Don't you hate when you have big plans for a redo and it goes Bad!

Here's the victim, a storage box that was used as a sewing box. 

Oh Ya, I had big plans for this!

First I painted it Heirloom white

So far so good

Then I thought a good sanding will bring the blue out, and added some mocha glaze.

OH OH, I am not liking this, but I plunged on with my plan.

A French Graphic on top

I saw this graphics idea on a cute little pink table and thought it would be perfect.  Of course I don't know which of you creative bloggers had done the cute little pink table, but I would love to link you up.  I of course understand if you don't want to be associated with this mess!

I didn't paint the inside......To lazy!

Maybe if I put this fuzzy circle around it, it will look better?

I put it in my booth today for $24.00 maybe some crafty person will buy it and think, Oh I can make this box look really cute, I will scrape off the white paint and paint the legs black! LOL

I had a fabulous month for sales at the antique store, I did major restocking three times and sold just about everything

EXCEPT...The table that won't sell!!!!

So tell me, where did I go wrong with the box?    You won't hurt my feelings, I think it is a red blue hot mess!

Broken China Mosaic Projects

I have been on a Mosaic-A-Thon

When I do broken China Mosaics I do many projects at once because it is such a mess.

Of all the crafts I do, Broken china Mosaics is my favorite.  I don't understand why I like it so much given I am a type A personality and it is soooo tedious.

This was a cute little mirror I mosaic, it can be used as a tray or it has a hanger to be used as a piece of art 

This is for sale at The Polka Dot Closet.  I have very little luck selling mosaics in my antiques booth.  The only mosaics that seem to sell there are mosaic shelves or a small piece of furniture.

Have you ever wondered why mosaics are so pricey?  

It's because it so time consuming, hours and hours go into each mosaic piece.  

First you purchase the china. Then each piece is individually cut (Not hit with the hammer). A pattern is layed out, then the china is applied piece by piece.  Each piece has to be leveled so you get that smooth feeling when you run your hand over it. The piece is then grouted (Big mess) and each individual tile piece gets polished.

Just for fun I did a butter dish, I liked how it turned out

I love these ballet slippers, they took me 6-7 hours to complete, it's really difficult to go around the curves and into tight spots.  The hourly wage to produce a mosaic is pretty low LOL!

 Even though the hourly wage is low, the reason I do broken china mosaics is because it is Sooo fun!
