Water Slide Decal Table

In my last post I shared the exciting news that I had an article on "How to make and use water slide decals" in The November 2011 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine 

OK, I have finally calmed down.  Thank you for all of your sweet comments!  

Now, I get to show you the water slide decal projects I have been working on, I have been dying to show you, but didn't think it would be appropriate until the magazine came out

Here was the subject, a little thrift store table

I painted it a light blue then laid a paper doily I sprayed with temporary adhesive and used it as a stencil.  I covered the center of the doily with a cardboard circle. 

 Then used a make up sponge and craft paint to lightly blot on some brown paint 

I printed a graphic from the fabulous Graphics Fairy onto water slide decal paper, and applied it to the center of the table

I put on two coats of wipe on poly acrylic and put it in my booth at Orange Tree where it sold immediately

Just think of all of the furniture projects you could do!

I have a question..So many of you inquired about purchasing decal paper, I am thinking of selling blank water slide decal paper at The Polka Dot Closet (My on line store), but wanted to see if there was any interest as I would have to buy in large quantities to get the best price.  The online stores charge so much for shipping.  I would make it competitive and shipping from The Polka Dot Closet is only $2.99.  I'm not looking for any kind of a commitment, just your thoughts!

I'm Featured in Romantic Homes Magazine!

In April I told you one of my projects was going to be published.  I was crazy excited, and finally.... here it is the "Make it" section of the November 2011 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine! The article is on making and using water slide decals.

This is the November Romantics Homes Holiday decorating issue

  Here is how I did the projects,
 I found this tin box for .50 at an estate sale

I painted it heirloom white, sanded it, then add water slide decals.  The graphics are all from the fabulous Graphics Fairy.  The beauty of water slide decals is they allow the beauty of the box to show through.  It looks almost like a painted effect.

Romantic Homes informed me the November magazine would be a holiday shopping issue and asked if I could incorporate some holiday projects, which was a stretch in April

A friend found this chair for me at an estate sale, it was a 100 year old choir chair from a church in Michigan

I dry brushed it in blue, sanded, and then added a water slide decal.  


OK, I admit it, I'm a brown nose, the name "Luc" is the editors sons name, I figured it couldn't hurt!  


Look how water slide decals allow you to still see the details of the wood 



I showed you photo's of how I did the photo shoot....Yep, it's all smoke and mirrors

....and now you know the rest of the story!


I've been holding out on you with many projects since this one and now I can share them, so stay tuned for future posts and I will show you some really fun uses for water slide decals beyond candles and soap.

Christmas Altered Books

I made up a couple Christmas altered books for my booth at Orange Tree.  Here is the whole altered book tutorial.  The only thing I did different was used rubber stamps with holiday words and of course holiday ornaments.

I didn't realize my salt shaker snowmen were peeking around the books as I took pictures!

I put Christmas items in my booth right after Halloween

One thing I keep my eyes open for all year are vintage hymnals

Because.... Every hymnal has Christmas music!

These hymnals are pretty easy to find at thrift stores and could be used on lots of different craft projects.


I'm not sure if the snowmen peeking around the books is cute or creepy!

So kids, that's my tip for the day....... Keep your eyes open now, for hymnals to do Christmas projects later!

You guy's are the BEST!

Using Vintage Rubber Stamps to make a French Graphics Stool

I found a wonderful little stool at auction along with a vintage rubber stamp set

This is the 1940's rubber stamp set I bought at auction

And this was the little stool. 

 I wasn't trying to be artsy with my photo, it was the humidity here in Orlando fogging up the lens

I went to Graphics Fairy and found French advertising words 

Then stamped away, I did it just by eyeballing, so it is not all perfectly straight, part of the charm...Maybe?

I used Versacraft fabric ink.  I feel more comfortable using ink for fabric, so if the stool ever got wet, the graphics would never run or fade.

After Martins inspection I put the stool in my booth at Orange Tree and priced it at $28

I am totally in love with this project!!

I love the look and versatility of these vintage stamps, I think you will be seeing more rubber stamp projects in the future.

Salt Shaker Snowmen & Snow Women

Whats a girl to do when she finds a whole bag of salt shakers at the thrift store?

She waits patiently, knowing that some fabulously talented blogger will inspire her!

 That blogger is Mamie Jane's.   Go take a look at her snowmen salt shaker's and while you're there, follow her! She is a crafting magician....I'm not just saying this to suck up to her because I copied her idea, I really mean it, this girl can make anything out of nothing!

Here's my princess snowman, can you be a princess and a snowman?...I say equal rights for snow women!

I'm going to put them in my booth at Orange Tree after Halloween

and will probably price them between $5-$7

They're a little kitschy but, adorable, fun to make, and would be great little hostess gifts!


I can't believe I am getting Christmas projects done since the temperature here in Orlando has yet to leave the 90's, finally cooler weather is predicted this weekend, I am going to need my sweater if it gets in the 80's!
